Gotta say, I am disappointed. I know weight loss is not linear. I know my body has to readjust. But I have 140 pounds to lose and I really thought it would go faster. I lost 12 pounds during the first 2 weeks. In the last 7 weeks now I have lost 10 more. I really expected a more consistent weight loss of 2-3 pounds a week since I have so much to lose.

I am not giving up nor am I looking for a reason to cheat. I won't. No matter what I am committed to this WOE now. I just expected it to melt off a little faster I guess. Sorry to be a kill joy.

I will stay on my diet. I will get healthy and lose weight. There is nothing I could eat or drink that tastes as good as how I feel at this moment on this WOE ~ nothing!

    Re: Disappointed

Hi! I know how you must feel, but there are people who do lose faster. Here is a link to one (see below). You could send her a PM and ask her what she is doing and eating and see how it lines up with your daily routine. And are you measuring your inches? Sometimes the scale doesn't move, yet people have lost several inches (which is exciting to me).

    Check out:

    And another:

These should help you to see that it won't be long until you really see some great changes!

    I'm cheering for you!

now wait.. I'm NOT a math WHIZ or anything.. but you said you hoped to lose 2-3 pounds a week...

      you've lost 22.. in 9 weeks...

      22 divided by 9 is 2.444444444444

that's ALMOST 2.5 pounds a week.... that's right where you wanted to be.. isn't it???
      2-15-10 194.8 - highest ever!
      2-20-10 190.4 - new scale
      3-20-10 177.8 - 1 month
      5-10-10 169.8 - 25 pounds gone!

This is really a numbers game, and you have to let the numbers speak for themselves. You're right on target, Kelly! C'mon - smile!

            Re: Disappointed

Kelly, hang in there! After my two week induction I went through a period when I seemed to lose SO slowly. And you know, maybe it was, but after a while it picked up again. Seems like I go through a "fast" month then a slow one, and it's been like that for me for six months. In the end it will come off, and as hard as it is to lose slowly it's both healthier for your body and healthier for your mind (I think! At least it was for me) because it gives you time to adjust to the dramatic lifestyle changes that take place.

Sounds like you're doing great to me. Keep at it.

Hi Kelly! I had 147 lbs to lose back in June 2003, and it seemed like an impossible dream to be thin again, however, here I am two years later, and 105 lbs lighter. There are adjustment periods and times when you don't lose a darn pound in a month, but it will come off!

You will lose faster soon, I am sure of it!!

                  Re: Disappointed

I've been cranky for months about how I've been at a standstill, but when I look at my food/weight journal, it turns out I've lost over 8 pounds in the last two months. My body seems to enjoy hovering before it drops the weight so it just seemed that I wasn't moving.

Weight loss is like, 95% mental work, I swear! I've found that I need to keep reminding myself how far I've come and that helps me keep optimistic about how I will get where I want to be.
I promise you that as time goes by and you see more and more differences in your body you'll feel better about your progress!...but the key thing is to accept the fact that only time will allow this process to happen.
Eat like you are supposed to be eating, drink your water, exercise and enjoy your life...let the pounds come off and don't bind yourself to any self-imposed timeline that you think your body should keep up to.

                    Re: Disappointed

Thanks, I really appreciate the encouragement. I think my problem is that if I am not losing one week I feel like I am doing something wrong and I panic. The good thing is that I am NOT letting this be an excuse to get me down to the point I cheat - very typical for me. No matter what, I am doing this - no matter how long it takes. It is so nice to be able to come here to vent and get encouragement. Thanks

great job so far what you doing for the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins? could be those scales don't tell the whole story. you can easily be losing fat mass from your body but adding lean tissue in the form of musclse mass and fluids/water mass. Scales only tell us the net change in mass as effected by gravity. you could lose 4 pounds of fat gain 2 pounds of muscle tissue ands add a few pounds of water weight and be crying about not losing but your pants would be looser and folk seeing you would see a smaller healthier Kelly walking towards them.

I'm kind iof surprized Brook hasn't already told you to make friends with youyr tape measure ansd watch those pounds of body fat melting off even when the sclaes don't show you it.

                        Happy low carbing.

You might want to take the batteries out of your scale and give them to someone who will hide them. Don't lose focus on how much healthier you're becoming! When I first started I didn't even own a scale (they made me cry) and I'm so glad I didn't weigh myself. When my clothes started falling off me I finally bought one and weighed only once a week. I was losing about a pound a week but my patience paid off. I'm still not at goal but you can do this!!!!! Don't let the metal monster discourage you! Now I hardly ever weigh...I forget to! Lol! You'll get there!

Hi Kpoll, I agree with everyone that you are doing fantastic, you are.

I know how frustrating it can be when the weight is not coming off as fast as you would like, but just stay strong and eventually it will come off. There really isn't anything else that I can add everything has already been said so well. The only thing I would suggest is to put away the scale for a while. I know this sounds impossible, in fact I used to be one of those people that would get on the scale at least twice a day. I loved to see the numbers going down and it was so exciting to check. And then the numbers stopped going down, they held steady, then it was not so fun. A few times the numbers actually went up! Those were bad days for me. The thing is I was doing everything right, our body's are just crazy.

So Sarah and I made up this challenge called ICES, the S stands for scales. We commited to not wiegh ourselves for a month. It was hard at first but now I am so glad I did it. I use the measuring tape and I notice that I am shrinking, my life is no longer dictated by what the scale says that morning. It is the best thing I have ever done, and I will continue this same way from now on. You should try it and see how you feel.

I would start useing a tape measure instead of a scale. You'd be surprised at the diffrence it makes in what you think your loseing. You may only lose 5 pounds but you also could have lost 4 inches which would be due to muscle mass forming replaceing the fat loss. This all depends on your exercise schedule though. I've found since i've started lifting weights and running my muscle mass has increased dramaticly. I've actually gained an inch on my biceps and lost 4 inches on my waist and stomach.
