  • How much Flax?

I cant seem to find it anywhere.. In the Faq about flax its said 1 to 2 tablespoons is "safe and effective" for most people, but that doesnt say I cant have more. I've looked in DANDR aswell and dont see an answer.

Anyone have a theory? Can we have 2, 4, 8 tbsp?

    Re: How much Flax?

I used to have 6 tablespoons per day, 2 after each meal, that was the only way it worked for me, until I tried vegetables with more fiber and flax and wheat bran bread.

Flax is okay for Induction if it's used for

      1. a daily fiber supplement for which it is limited to 1 tablespoon daily.

      or

      2. to relieve constipation: the dose is to begin with 1 tablespoon daily, more or less can be used until the constipation is relieved.

On OWL, you can use up to 1 ounce of flax during the Nut/Seed rung if you want to use it as a food source for Omega-3 fats and its other alleged health benefits.

Well, I think that's my problem.. Im trying to have some "relief" myself. So far, I've made the induction legal flax bread. I only eat half of it and save the other half for the next day. But it doesnt seem to have made a big difference for me. Should I move on to eating the whole loaf in a day or do I really need to be mindfull of Flax?

Flax is a "bulk forming laxative". So it will take some time to gt relief from it. Moreover, you need to make sure you are making your daily water requirement because if you aren't drinking enough water, the flax can actually constipate you more.

Before you invest more time in the flax, you might want to re-read the sections in the book about Dr. Atkins fiber of choice (it wasn't flax by the way). Also you might want to click the link in my siggy. That's my personal webpage and I have an essay on flax there. It's best to make informed decisions about foods/food supplements, imo.

The last time I did induction, this board recommended that I take 2-3 tablespoons per day. So I do 3 tablespoons, either as a cracker or cereal. Hasn't hurt me none, keeps me regular, my skin clear, my hair and nails healthy, and is negligible in terms of net carbs.

Yes that was during that unfortunate time when some folks were stretching the Induction rules/foods list in order to use flax in its OWL capacity. Thankfully, we've gone back to the basics of Induction and use these fiber supplements/laxatives as directed.

That's also why my webpage has a flax section----too many people misquoting the book and I needed a quick references to the flax sections of the book.

Well, since it doesn't appear to be hurting me, I shall continue.
