  • The Scale

I decided last week that I would not look at the scale for 2 weeks. I don't think I can do this. I know the scale can be evil and unhealthy to watch but for me, I need to know that I am on track a couple of times a week. I have more anxiety now not knowing if I am doing ok than I did watching the scale go up and down a couple of pounds during the week!! I know my weight can fluctuate. It bothers me a lot less to see the fluctuation during a week than it does to think, "hmm, how is this going to affect me, did I eat too much of that, etc." I really think that I would rather know if I am doing something that adversely affects my weight as soon as possible rather than waiting 2 weeks and then seein a gain and being really frustrated. I know a lot of you don't use the scale and only measure, but I can't do it

    Where is my scale!!!!

    Re: The Scale

there is nothing repeat nothing wrong with getting on your scales even several times aday.. The problem is when you decide that because the number displayed by that metal monster wasn't the one you wanted it is a bad day and then things snowball from there.

SO if you can accept the fact that your body mass is going to be constantly morphing as you burn off the fat mass, add muscle mass and your fluid mass will be in a constant state of flux and the metal monster will only repoirt the total mass change not just the fat mass loss then go for it. Any one who was here back in my losing days can tell you i was on the scales all the time checking out how drinking this or moving those bowels effected my mass.

    Happy low carbing.

Kelly, it will take some getting used to. Just think how much sweeter the reward would be if you stuck to your guns, followed the rules of Induction, and waited a full week or two before weighing again. Rather than getting the "squeak" of a reward by seeing itty-bitty losses every other day or so, you will be rewarded with a BOOM of a weight loss if you wait as long as you can. Weighing every single day was always like watching paint dry for me - you are forever wanting more. Wait if you can!

        Re: The Scale

I won't be getting on several times a day. I more or less get on every 3rd day. I have been on extended induction for 2 1/2 months so I am not expecting that big BOOM anymore. I just need to know if something is NOT working so I can adjust before it becomes something to depress me and discourage me. I have had some problems with yeast as well in the past so it helps to know if I doing "enough" to or if I am eating something that does not agree with me and is actually making me gain.

          Re: The Scale

I'm an every day weigher, but I only count Mondays. The number doesn't encourage or discourage me, but I like to watch the fluctuations and general trends.

It's when I start avoiding the scale that I wind up in trouble - but that's just me!

Brook - That is exactly what I am afraid of. I feel the very same way.
