  • Gaining Weight

    Morning All,

This past weekend I drank alcohol Friday and Saturday nights and then on Sunday went out to dinner and ate bread . My stomach has not been the same since. I got on the scale today from Monday and I have gained 2 pounds . I have been getting back in the groove since Monday, but I have not been eating breakfast. Could it be the bad weekend is still catching up on the scale or is it because I haven't been eating breakfast and throwing my metabolism off?
    Thanks.

    Re: Gaining Weight

You probably still have some regained water weight / glyocgen store in the body. Just take it easy. The weight will go off in a few days. My advice: don't step in the scale after you cheated wait a week after hopping back on the wagon to evaluate the damage... it'll be gone by then.

Thank you so much I needed to hear that instead of your doomed. It broke my heart, but this was a lesson that I thought I had learned a long time ago. I have been drinking atleast 100 ozs of water so hopefully that also helps.

        Drinking water will help!

Alcohol does the same to me.. makes me retain water for about 4-5 days then it comes off.

            Re: Gaining Weight

Make sure and eat your breakfast! Even if all it is is a few bites of something, breakfast serves to get your fatburning metabolism rolling in the morning and that's what we want, right?

Also, take some time to think about why you caved in with the alcohol and the bread.
No, you're not doomed, but you have to realize that everything you eat right now is serving a purpose, and you are building new habits to last you a lifetime. The danger of thinking "Well, I'll just have a little bit because it's a special occasion." is that it can start happening more frequently.
Life is always going to throw social occasions at us that involve food, and we need to resolve to stand firm to the plan and keep our goal in mind.

I don't know about you but I want this darn weight off ASAP! and I've turned eating out at restaurants and at social functions into a game, where my challenge is to seek out Atkins friendly foods. If there isn't much to choose from (and you know, I've never had trouble with finding things to eat) I know that I can eat what I can, and there'll always be food for me when I get home.

What did you drink? many drinks are zero carb or very low carb as in dry wine or low carb beer...
these do not affect me much as far as gaining....

I have fallen prey to the carb/sweets demon myself and have gotten back on the wagon for 1 1/2 days so far. The weight will come off but it will take time. Take care of yourself!

But they are probably delaying weightloss as our bodies will use the alcohol for fuel before carrying on burning fat.

Every time I am in the situation where I might drinik booze of any kind I catch myself thinking - "wouldnt you prefer to carry on losing rather than take a holiday from weightloss?" - and order a sparkling water with ice and lemon slice!!!

And remember if you are not yet on at least the alcohol rung of OWL you are not supposed to be having alcohol anyway according to DANDR
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
