  • I think I've stalled.. coffee? cheese? splenda?

OK. I've been in extended induction for two weeks (on atkins total of 4 weeks).

On my 3rd week I was still loosing inches but the last week I've been stuck at a little over 35"...

Since everything was working so well I've added a few things that could be considered harmful.

    1. I've had some decaf espresso every once and a while. The book says this is ok and I've heard that it's fine from other people too. Thoughts?

    2. I've had more whipping cream than when I started. While I'm less than three ounces I'm still a bit worried.

    3. I've had splenda.. is that going to mess me up?

    4. I've had chocolate (which was unsweetened). I made chocolate moose for my gf with whipping cream and splenda.

These changes were in the last week which is why I think I've stalled.

    Am I worring about nothing?

I've been really craving chocolate/splend but now I'm just going to cut it out until I loose again. The problem is that my cravings are really harsh and I'm not sure why..

First read your DANDR chaptetr 15 and you will see you are not stalled not even close. Dr Atkins defines a stall as 4 weeks of no weight loss nor inches lost! you have one week so you are just in a little hesitation in scale weight.

it is very very natural to have a post induction 14 days hesitation of several weeks in scale weight loss some folk refer to this as P I S S ( I hope those **** didn't show up again)
Now about those cravings which you should be worried about. Something is causing them since you just added them try looking at your food logs and see if you have any other new to you foods or brands. If not then you could be either out of ketosis because you aren't getting enough fat in your diet or too much protein assuming you are keeping your carbs at insuction levels. If those are fine then you have a triggering event going on and need to remove it from your life in order to be successful.. Are you under some new stress? that can wreck havoc with blood sugar controls because of the hormones secreted. Exercise can help you use up those hormones in a productive manner and get rid of the craving too.

You can try the drowning method too as in drink a large class of water and wait 30 min to see if you still want the choclate. If so drink another glass and wait 30 more min repeat as needed but soon you will be running to the potty and not even thinking about the chocolate.

I'm one of the splenda challenged folk and get cravings from the sweet taste because I'm a chephalac responder. if you are then you need to avoid all sweets cause even though they are low carb ansd should not evoke insulin they do in you.

    Happy low carbing.

Don't measure every week. Measure every TWO weeks.

And you aren't stalled. You are simply experiencing the fact that you will not be losing something every day, or even every other day. Your body has to pause occasionally to adjust.

Now, relax! None of the things you have written about could be causing this right now. You just need to let your body do its thing.

Don't sweat it, Kevin. I had the same thing happen to me after my initial two weeks. Around week four I started loosing weight again and didn't hit a true "stall" until I had dropped 110 lbs. It took another 3 months before the last 10 lbs. dropped. Hang in there. You have done a great job thus far. Keep up the good work.

Kevin -- don't sweat it. I did the same thing and seemed to "stall" out right after induction. Your body is just adjusting to a new way of life!
