  • How Much Could I Lose By October 22nd???

Now I know that everyone is different and some lose quicker than others and you can't really say how much, BUT what could i lose by then? I have a wedding that day and I just wanted to ESTIMATE how much i could lose by then. I want to know so I can set a goal for myself, but I have no idea. I dont want to go too high and get upset if I dont make it, yet I dont want to guess too low and blow past it and not be strict with myself. This is just a poll kinda thing.....any comments would be helpful!!!! Thanks!

Re: How Much Could I Lose By October 22nd???

There are several ways to factor in how much you could lose by that date.

    1) How much weight did you lose in the first 14 days? This will determine your metabolic edge on this WOE. If you have over 50 pounds to lose and lost 12 pounds the first two weeks, you have a high metabolism. If you have over 50 pounds to lose and you lost only 2 pounds the first two weeks, then you have a very low metabolism. Most people fall somewhere in the middle.

    2) Calories still matter, even on Atkins. You just never feel it because you feel so satisfied and full all the time thanks to this way of eating!

For a general idea of how much you can lose, all things being equal in a vacuum, here's a formula to try.

    1.) Take your current weight
    2) Take your goal weight
    3) How many pounds do you have to lose to get to your goal?
    4) How many days do you want to take to reach this goal?
    5) Next, calculate the total amount of calories you have to expend to hit your goal (line 3 X 3500)
    6) Find the total number of calories to lose per day (divide line 5 by line 4)
    7) Now calculate the amount of calories you currently need in per day at your current weight (line 1 X 11 for women, line 1 X 13 for men)
Now recalculate what you need to eat to form a caloric deficit to lose weight {line 7 minus line 6)

Adding exercise burns more calories, builds muscle mass and metabolism and is advisable to eating 300 calories per day to make up the deficit (as an example). Why not, instead, walk for four miles a day and eat the extra 400 calories?

    Hope that helps.

Cleo's equation is probably more accurate, but definitely more work! Over two months, you could reasonably expect to lose an average of 1-2lbs per week or 8-16lbs.

However, exercise will tone your muscles, making you look better than just weight loss alone. Two months is plenty of time to see results from a concentrated work out.

As for a goal, why don't you make it along the lines of cheatfree days, or minutes exercised, or amount of water? Those are goals you know you can reach because you're completely in control, whereas weight lost is dependent on some things you can't change.

You could lose 40-50 pounds if you starved yourself.
Yeah you'd make yourself sick and unappealing but that's how much you could lose.

If you're asking how much you'd lose on Atkins I'd say in 7 weeks up to 25 lbs BUT you'd need to throw in a good deal of cardio exercise.

Just to add to what the others have said. I wouldn't get too hung up on what the scales say. You can be losing fat, but gain muscle and that infernal machine will register as no loss, minimal loss or even a slight gain.

Fat takes up more space than muscle. Believe me: I went through a 6 months period where I lost no real weight according to the scales, but I lost 3 dress sizes.

I'm assuming that you want to look good in your wedding dress and in your honeymoon clothes right? So follow what the tape measure says and ignore the scales. If you lose 5 pounds of fat, but gain 5 pounds of muscle, that scale won't budge but you might have to get your dress altered so it will fit the smaller you.

Just remember, no one will know how much you weigh on October 22, unless you carry a sign that says "Today I weigh _________ pounds." BUT everyone will see that you look trimmer, fitter and healthier.

So don't get hung up on the scales. Keep up the exercise and your body will reward you by building muscle and losing fat while you do your Atkins.

Wise words from Megs. (as normal )

A couple years ago I was taking photos often. I remember one month in particular that I lost only 2 pounds.... but the visible results in the photos were amazing!! Exercise is key. Keep after it and don't rely on the scale to tell you how you're doing.

Well it's not my wedding, my best friends. But she's going to Jamaica to get married and she's having the reception here, I haven't saw her in a while since she moved so I just wanted to suprise her. I dont want to have to wear a sheet as my dress, ya know? I want to wear something cute.

I'm not losing inches yet, but I have lost 14lbs. Is this normal? Since I started low-carb I went from a 51 inch waist to a 48inch, but since Atkins, Im down to 47. So really an inch....

Thanks for all the tips! Im going to try that equation that cleochatra mentioned (if i can even fiure it out) and go from there. Thanks alot!!!

Generally, you lose fat from extremities first, so it's possible that you've lost in areas you've not been tracking. Do your rings, watch, shoes, etc feel any looser?

I lost 50lbs and about 7" off my waist. But I didn't lose 'just 7 inches' because my hips, and bust, and arms, and legs all got smaller too.

Personally, I'd aim for a minimum of 30min cardio and 30 minutes weight bearing exercises 5 times a week until the wedding. Then, while you may not be at goal, you'll at least know you did everything in your power to be the smallest you could get.

But can I pop something in here?

If you are losing weight "for an event" you are more likely to fail afterwards. So keep your sights set on a lifetime of health and fitness and you'll be more likely to succeed LONGterm!

                    5 lbs. That's my prediction.

That way, if you lose more, you'll have exceeded my prediction, which is a great thing.

                    Think SIZE, not pounds.

It's amazing that with my mathematical prowess I could figure that one out!

If you want help with the equation, PM me your stats and I'll do what I can.

As 2big says, there are variables, and eating low carb you actually burn more calories processing what you eat than on other ways of eating; conversely, there are those times of the month when women stall, etc, or when we plateau so that our bodies can catch up with our weight loss...

I totally agree with what the others have said. Especially Megs. We all go into this with numbers in our minds, but as we get healthier and thinner, the numbers suddenly don't mean as much as the way we feel, the energy and the inches that disappear.

I would say, don't worry so much about the amount of pounds you lose as you do the transformation that you'll see in the mirror. Buy a tape measure and let the inches lost be the motivation to keep going.

Okay.. played with the formula, and with Cleos help ***THANKS CLEO*** came up with needing a deficit of 900 cals/day.

Now, here is where I am all screwed up. According to fitday, if I eat as planned today, I will have ingested 1420 cals with a 70/24/6 ratio... and a perfect *ahem, ahem* 20 carbs.

When I plug in my planned activity.. It shows a total calories burned of Calories Burned Todaysourcecals% totalTotal:3649 Basal:197454%Lifestyle:122934%Activities:44512%

All things being equal, is that a 2200 calorie deficit for the day?

How did I get through Calculus with out being able to figure this out< lol>... give me class work any day....

I agree with Laura. If you haven't measured any other part of your body, you might want to try on a piece of clothing like a dress to see if that is looser. If it is, then you've lost inches off your other body parts in addition to your waist.
