  • is 5-6 lbs in first 2 months good enough?

hi there. i've had some very frustrating couple of months. for some reason i am not thrilled with the 5-6 pound loss i've experienced in the last 2 months, my first 2 months. i have had always met people and read about people losing so much faster than this.

i have adjusted to this lifestyle so much that i would rather do this diet then go to an expensive nutritionist who has a proven track record with weight losing clients that i have been referred to. i have gotten used to all the mayo and cheese! but what i really want is results and i don't know if i'm doing well enough. should i just be satisfied with this slow rate? and it is slow right? i mean, some people lose much more in 2 months, no?

    (sigh)

stats: i am 5'8, weighed 200 at start and now weigh about 904/905.
i exercise at a high level of intensity 3-4 times per week.

    thanks.

Only you know the answer to that question. We get out of Atkins that whuich we invest in it of our time and efforts. Have you been working as hard as you could during your exercise sessions 3-4 times a week and for how long 20 min or 60 min? Dr Atkins discusses exercise in DANDR and 3-4 times a week isn't very much effort.

You said you have gotten used to all the cheese and mayo but you don't say how much you are eatting what phase you are eatting or what your % of fats proteins and carbs are so it is hard to tell if you are doing a slow luxurious Atkins or a hard working barebones eating Atkins weight loss plan? Are you measuring to see how much fat mass you are shedding as you add lean mass morphing your body working your Atkins plan? Scales can be very deceptive.

I am also 5'8 with a decent sized frame- the more you have to lose, typically the quicker you will lose for a while. I lost a lot quicker when I weighed 247 as opposed to now. I am losing at a much slower rate(I think- I am not weighing for a while)

thanks for your replies. here is the link to fitday which has some days listed. today would be an ideal for me but not really normal. i usually eat the percentages right (65% fat and so forth) but i usually eat about 2000 cals a day. i am trying to find more lo-cal snacks as i think this might be the issue for me - too many cals. i am using salami (nitrate free) and cheese as snacks mostly because it's easiest. perhaps i shouldn't. anyway, if you want to see my menus, look at the whole month calender and you'll see which days i journaled. (some dinners were not included.)

also, i was a off on my progress. i have lost 9-10 pounds since july 4th when i started. so this isn't bad really for 2 months.

as for exercise, when i go to the gym i usually do 40 minutes fast walking on an incline or an elliptical machine for 30 minutes. i also bicycle other days - 30-40 minutes straight, no stopping and at a high intensity. i am trying to work out harder and aiming for 5 days a week of cardio.

          thanks!

It could also be that you are losing slow because of the cheese.
I stalled eating cheese at first and I found I deffinately can not eat cheese every day, cause it keeps me from losing regularly, now, further into ths WOE it doesn't stall me anymore but it does effect my weightloss.
(I noticed btw that you sometimes do overeat on cheese, heh)

Have you taken your measurements? You may be losing inches and the scale hasn't caught up yet. Really, the tape measure is the way to go. Hang in there!

Nix the cheese and eliminate the high sodium meats (the turkey and the salami). All that salt will cause you to retain water. Stick with meats you prepare yourself so you know what is in them.

I have to watch the cheese. I was losing very slow for awhile and cut out cheese. I then lost something like 10 pounds over the next 2 weeks. I reintroduced it in small amounts and my weight loss is slowing again. I think I need to get rid of it completely. Try doing that for a couple of weeks and see what happens.

I was just about to say, get rid of the cheese, because dairy tends to be a weight staller, no?
