  • Well, its been a long road so far lost 61 pounds i can't believe it.

I'm going back to university in a week and have lost 61 pounds since the 27th of May i can't believe its that much. Yesterday i went into a clothes shop, one of the ones i dreamed about being able to fit into their clothes and tried on a pair of 38 jeans and they fit me perfectly, man i wanted to cry.

The only thing i'm worried about is returning to uni. See i feel that i might feel left out of the partying scene because its not advisable to drink alcohol while on atkins it just concerns me a little

      Way to go, guy solo!

I think that is marvellous! Thank you so much for letting us know how you are faring. I hope you plan to stick to this WOE, knowing how wonderful you feel and now look! We'd like to see pictures of your new jeans, too, in the before/after section of the board!

Again, congratulations, and best wishes as you go to university!

Congratulations! I agree with the advice you've been given. You've worked hard for your Atkins accomplishments. Keep it up!

Re: Well, its been a long road so far lost 61 pounds i can't believe it.

I know how hard it can be around the school atmosphere. I am a student at the University of Houston and I get invited to quite a bit of social outings. When I knew that it was going to be hard for me to stay away from the drinks I just wouldn't go, I didn't even feel bad about it either, I knew I was doing what I had to do to keep myself healthy and whole. After a while drinking just lost it's appeal to me, I was able to go to parties for the shere pleasure of hanging out and chatting with friends.

There are a few things that I do when I go to a party just to be on the safe side. I go out and buy some really delicious sugar free gum, like Altoid's cinnamon gum, it's yummy and only 1 gram of sugar alcohol per piece. I keep gum in my mouth the entire time, that way if I am going to take a drink of something I would have to take my gum out of my mouth, that extra second of reaction time is usually enough for me to change my mind and not risk my progress. Another thing that I do is have a bottle of water in my hands at ALL TIMES. I drink it and when it's empty I go and fill it up again. I know that if I put down that water I am spelling doom, I will feel bad because everyone around me is drinking something and then start rationalizing that I should be entitled to drink something, especially since I've done so well and all. It's the kiss of death let me tell you.

Remember, one day you will be able to drink again, it is a rung in OWL and you will be there before you know it. There will always be parties, and opportunities to drink once you've reached maintenance.

Good luck with this, I know how challenging it can be, especially with the peer pressure. Where do you go to school?

Congratulations on the loss! I bet you're school mates won't know who you are!

Party lightly and enjoy this time with your friends...but keep in mind the hard work and effort you put into losing the 61 pounds.

Wow, congrats on the weight loss! Your going to have so much fun when you get back to school - watching everyones jaw drop when they see you! whoohoo!

And I totally agree with Yoly, stay away from the social scene if you feel weak that day...and take water and enjoy your friends all the other times - you can have a good time without drinking and feel so much better the next morning !!

                      Congrats again!

I can definately recommend Manchester its a great uni, especially since it joined UMIST, its now the biggest uni in england. Plus it's a great city with a great nightlife.

Me too, that would mean I would have to leave the kids, dog, and husband behind...wait! That may not be a bad idea!

Great idea ditching the party scene!

Well it's one of Dan's top choices at the mo although for how long I don't know at the rate the prospectus' are zooming through the door. I'll tell him you recommend it (it's not too far from where we live in York so he can still get home for City matches!)
