  • Shocking 2 pound Weight Loss

I was really shocked to get on the scale this morning and discover I had lost 2 pounds! TOM is due TODAY and the combination of having my dog die and having my 48th birthday caused me to have a couple not allowed meals.

I had a very strange reaction to the birthday cake, I wanted to tell you guys about it and see if this has happened to anyone else. My daughter bought this cake from a very expensive bakery in Baltimore, it was chocolate with buttercream icing. So I started eating it, at first, it tasted really good. Then, the roof of my mouth started to tingle, then my tongue felt like it was swelling up, I was looking around at everybody else thinking it was the cake, but I was the only one that had some weird reaction to it. The next day, I had horrible diareah all day. Has this happened to anyone else? I won't be tempted to eat sweets for a very, very long time!

Congratulations on your whoosh! Sounds like your reaction to that cake is a great reminder to not try that again!

Re: Shocking 2 pound Weight Loss

I have found in the past that when I do Atkins strict for several days, then "cheat" a bit, I get so sick. Katrina hit us precisely 1 week after I started induction and I was ready to blow my diet because of the circumstances and limited food... but... then I realized that if I got off of the diet, I'd be so sick for a day or so. As you know, being sick that way isn't fun, but I knew it was going to be even worse with no electricity, limited water and the craziness in the area. Therefore, I pressed on to stay on Atkins and I'm still doing great with it. You will remember those "cheat" times and how sick they can make you!!! GOOD LUCK!

Oh wow! You were in Lousiana during the hurricane or did you evacuate? Do you still have a home? You are really doing well staying on Atkins during such a stressful time, if you got through that, you can get through anything!

Yep... the eye of the hurricane hit us... but most of us are OK, just lots of trees to be cleaned up and minor damage to be taken care of. We didn't evacuate. I never dreamed it would be as bad as it was!! It's been quite devastating and interesting at the same time to see all that this area has been through. I HAD to continue on Atkins because I knew if I got off, I'd be sick and just didn't know what conditions I'd be under while sick (with no power, water, etc.) At least I remained motivated! I'm really proud of myself for not giving up... when I could actually justify it - and it would not have been "just another excuse!" Thanks for the encouragement!

If I have a cheat, I get diareah pretty bad. Sugar alcohols do it to me too. Thats kept me from having any more of those yummy Russel Stover candies. I actually love that this happens because it makes me pause, think, and then realize- No, I don't want to be sick all day just for eating this.

              America--

I am glad you warned me about your birthday cake! My 48th birthday
is coming up Oct 3 and I am sure I will get a cake...(my boys love store
bought cakes!) I don't want to go through an intestinal upset and ruin
by birthday...I'll remember your post. Maybe I'll have a yogart parfait
or a little ice cream to celebrate as I am at goal.

smileyme, I know what you mean. I am from St. Bernard Parish, and we have no homes to go back to. Just keep going with the diet and at least one thing will be going in the right direction.

My heart going out to those of you that were in Katrina's path! My...awe and...I don't know the word...but it is truly inspiring!

Chriss...in a way that reaction is a blessing...it definately taught you to stick to plan..I wish my body reacted that way from the first time I put sugar in my mouth and I wouldn't be where I am today.
