  • Caffeine & Low Carb Bars

I'm "stuck" on my weight loss. I lost 9 pounds in the first two weeks and got to a standstill after that. I have followed the induction guidelines for over three weeks. I'm trying to figure out why the weight loss stopped. I know, from past Atkins experiences, that you lose at a slower pace after induction. Induction gives your body the initial "kick start" that it needs. I had a tiny bit of caffeine and some low-carb (3 carbs or less) during induction. At the end of induction, KATRINA hit us and we've been without power, water, stores, etc. and so I've basically been living off of vienna sausage (low carb), low-carb bars, and Diet Mountain Dew - because those items were among the things generously donated to our community. I'm hoping that my standstill in my loss isn't because off too much caffiene or something in the low-carb bars. I've still remained at approximately 15 carbs/day. I've been exercising quite a bit as I've been running from one house or office to another and helping others load and unload items. I know it's possible that I've gained some muscle during this time too. Does anyone have any suggestions on the effects of the caffeine or low carb bars!?!? THANKS SO MUCH!

Ok, I think for being in the situation you are in, this is the emergency way of eating.
So in that way you are doing fine
But (I think you saw that one coming) the bars are probably the biggest problem, I know, they say you can eat them in induction, but they do have ingredients that aren't allowed in induction.
So as soon as you can drop the bars that would be great.
Oh, I also think the diet mountain dew could be a problem, I am not familiar with the ingredients but you should look into that one too.
Try to drink enough water !!

I agree, it's most likely the bars. Just keep doing the best you can under those terrible circumstances.

Thanks for the insight. I was quite surprised to see the Atkins Advantage bars listed on the "meal plan" for the 14 days of induction. Maybe only the Atkins bars specifically do not have those ingredients.... hmmmmmmmm.... I haven't been living off of them though. With no power, we've done lots of grilling burgers, sausage, chicken and more before we lost it all when our freezers went out. I've also have the vienna sausage from donations and I've watched the carb-count on that as it does vary from brand to brand. I've just had about 2 bars/day and several cans of Diet Mountain Dew. I know it has zero carbs, but I think it's loaded with caffeine. We've had tons of water donated too... so I guess (actually, I know) that water is the best and I have a bottle of it sitting on my desk now! THANKS!

From what i read you've only had one week without a loss? That's really not a stall. I would'nt worry, try to cut out the low carb bars and keep going...but if you really do have to have them in your situation, i wouldn't stress about it. (they don't always cause stalls for everyone..thought they may cause some digestive issues). Caffeine is the same...

I'm sure you haven't had a chance to measure but it's very likely you may have lost inches with all the exercise.
