  • Cant stay on during the weekends......

I do really, really well during the week and then the weekend comes and I cant stay on. Before I was fine but now....I just cant stick to it. So for the past two weeks its been tueday -friday on atkins, because I always try for monday but because I wasnt on it during the weekend, its hard just to jump right back on, make any sense? So tonight im making a bunch of stuff to eat so that I will be prepared when the hunger comes this weekend. I've usually just made everything on the weekend and its enough until friday, which I figure is probably the problem so i'm gonna try making even more food this week and see what happens. I'm just having issues with the weekends..........any suggestions??? Thanks.

    Hey speedy

Honestly? You've just got to plan, plan, plan and then do a little more planning. LOL

Food prep for me is key. If I don't have food readily available, the lazy snack monster lies in wait to bite me in the butt.

Plan it, do the food prep, write the weekend's menu down AND what your goals are for the weekend (example: 1. stay on plan. 2. maintain weight or better yet, weigh in on Monday and be SKINNIER. 3. eat what's on this menu 4. Refuse to let food rule me. I rule the food!) and hang it on your fridge so that when you walk in there your plan and goals are staring you right in the face. It works!

I agree with Brook. You have to plan. If I hadn't planned (and still do)...I wouldn't have made it. If you've made plans -- you can overcome the temptation to cheat. There will always be friends, relatives, parties, vacations, and weekends that tempt you. You can do it.

You can have Atkins friendly meals and snacks available. When there is a special occassion....make the mock version of the foods that are going to be served. Mashed potatoes...(cauliflower mashed)....Pizza...(Atkins Pizza)...Rice...(chopped cauliflower)
Once you get used to doing this, it becomes a habit and you won't have to stress over fixing different foods. Your friends and family might even decide they like the Atkins foods better than what they are having.

I agree with Brook, to be successful on this program you have to plan absolutly everything down to the last detail.

Do you have a few recipes that are your favorite? Why dont' you save those for the weekend, that way it's like a special "treat" to eat them. If you plan on going out get a sample of the menu sometime during the week and then order something that is safe for you to eat.

Be strong, I know you can do this. Plus the good thing is that you only have to do it for about a month, after 4 weekends of staying strong it should get easier and eventually become second nature. Think about it, is what you are putting in your mouth really worth the guilt that you have to deal with for the entire week. I bet you are kicking yourself all week about your cheats, knowing that you are going to cheat again. You are on an emotional rollercoaster and it's eventually gonna catch up to you.

Be strong, I know you can do this.

I usually keep mine for about three days and have even kept them for five but get a bit leery about eating them after 5!

Re: Cant stay on during the weekends......

Everyone already nailed it on the head.

I had the same problem, speedy. Friday night would roll around, and now matter how psyched I was to stay on plan, or how good I had been that day, I'd walk in the door after work and I'd be reaching for the pizza menu. Part of me realized it wasn't the food that I missed, but it was the ritual. Friday night was always pizza night. Then, Saturday & Sunday was just a backlash from Friday night. I couldn't get back on track because 1) I was craving more junk and 2) I figured "why bother?".

I'm just starting to get out of this cycle now. Lucky for me, I really only had to fix Friday nights, and Saturday & Sunday just sort of fell in line. My first successful Friday was a few weeks ago: I put boiled dinner in the crockpot to cook all day. (Corned beef, cabbage, carrots, onions). When I got home from work, I'd have this huge, fully cooked meal and I couldn't (and didn't want to) order pizza. Then last week, I made Italian Casserole, which I think is my favorite food EVER!! Just like Yoly said, this is my legal "treat" food that I have on the weekends. It puts pizza to shame! I just need to have it ready by the time I get home Friday night, which means I need to prepare it on Thursday night.
