  • Call the Whaaaaaaaaaambulance!

I just wanna grumble a lil bit OK? As of this week, I've not lost any weight for a whole month. I'm dropping back to extended Induction from OWL.

I'm not cheating (in fact, since I started in Jan. I haven't ever gone off course) but I'm not using Fitday as diligently as I used to and I'm eyeballing portions instead of measuring them out. I used to measure everything.

I went from hyperthyroid this summer to hypothyroid, and my meds are still being adjusted, that could play a part in things, and I'm not pushing myself as hard when I work out I realized the other day.

So there are a few things goin' on I can take a look at. Good news, no weight gain, no temptation to go off plan and sometimes when I see people I haven't seen in a while they say "you're shrinking away!" so that's pretty cool. Just.. I wanna see that scale move LOL. In my mind I wanted to be 199 for New Years. Thanks for letting me whine!

    Morning!

I know that is so frustrating to not see downward scale movement!

Have you checked with your doctor about the meds to see if there are side effects that might cause the stall?

And getting back to weighing and measuring never hurts, I notice my 'eyeball' portions are ususally bigger than the measured ones! darn it!

W00t! for 199 by New Years! I'll be cheering for you!

Part of OWL also is trying to find stall and or trigger foods for you. Could it be possible that something you've added may have contributed to this. Did you try backtracking..taking out any foods you'd added? that may help as well. I think that stalls in weightloss can happen to most. Mine lasted over 2 months during my weight loss. I was patient, and it passed

Thanks Sheshy I don't think the meds themselves can stall, It's more the bouncing metabolism I think. Maybe even the stress of worrying about it too.

sadie147, I thought that too a couple weeks ago but honestly I hadn't added too many different things yet. Maybe I missed something though.

When I went to rung 4 I had strawberries with cream cheese a few times in a couple week period and kept losing. On nuts & seeds (3) I added an ounce of sunflower seeds or almonds and on dairy (2) whole plain yogurt and ricotta cheese.

I added new things one week (example: yogurt), then I stopped that and added the other (ricotta cheese) the next week. Veggies (rung 1) wasn't an issue either.

This was over the course of the summer, and none of those things seemed an issue at the time. I stayed on a rung a few weeks before moving up. I'm pretty tentative when it comes to OWL. I feel like it's a Brave New World and I'm the village idiot

Have you been losing inches still? Remember, a stall is four weeks without a weight loss or loss in inches. Maybe your exercise regime needs to be tweaked?

Oh, I hear you. I am just getting over a 7-week long 'pause' in my weight loss. I did what you did - dropped to Induction, climbed back up the rungs, experimented with carbs, calories, more exercise... it didn't do a damn thing. Turned out all I needed was patience and confidence in myself - because as of this week, the scale is dropping again.

That's a great reminder. Patience is a virtue on this woe. If you're doing everything right (foods, water, supplements and exercise) you will be successful!

                  Re: Call the Whaaaaaaaaaambulance!

you didn't answer Isabeau's question about the inches? Our bodies morph our mass a lot on Atkins. we lose fat mass and gain muscle mass while fluid mass is in a constant state of flux so the metal monster doesn't always tell what is really going on. you could lose 4 pounds of fat add 2 pounds of muscle and 2 pounds of fluids and the metal monster would convince you you wre in a horrible stall when in reality you are healtheir ansd smaller then before!

I know I had several stalls that were thyroid meds dose related since every cell in the body needs the correct amount of thyroid hormone to fuction you can have a terrible time losing while getting the dose in the correct for you range and if you went from hyer to hypo you have had a drastic imbalance and should be commended for not tossing in the towel.

Also as we get in better shape and get smaller we need to increase our exercise as our bodies need less cals to do the exact same thing we did at a heavier weight about 9 cals per pound for females which means either we have to eat less to lose or do more exercise. So up your workout intensity a little ans see what OWling where you were does for you.

                  Happy low carbing.

I'm sorry, I didn't even see Isabeau's question! In answer, no I'm not losing inches BUT my body does look different to me. More flabby actually, even though I am getting muscles too. Things jiggle that had no dang jiggle before.

I'll up my exercise and watch the colories. I am eating like a horse sometimes.

                        Re: Call the Whaaaaaaaaaambulance!

I was on here a long time before I heard anything about "comfort weights". These are spots that we stayed at for a long time when we were gaining, for me it was a size 16, around 205 or so and I sat there, and sat, and sat for a looong time, it took 3 months or so. I finally realized that the only way to get out of a comfort weight spot was to change it up, change the kind of excercise that you are doing, switch resaruants that you eat out at, get some totally new spices or herbs into your cooking, drink twice as much water. I did all of those things and I really saw a change in the way I lost. I would recomend Slim in 6 to anybody, it is a workout program that i got turned onto here by some friends on the board, and it helped me a lot to get the wieghtloss moving again.

Another thing I would suggest is to not weigh yourself for a while, I know this sounds tough but it is really the best thing. I used to be a slave scale, now I weigh in once a month and think hmmm, that's interesting and move on. I even forgot to weigh in this month, lol, weigh in day was yesterday. If you are not constantly looking at the scale then you are more prone to do things right for right's sake, you'll be much more conscious of the items you put into your mouth too, you'll be surprised at how much a difference it can make but it really works. The ICES Challenge in the forum deals with all of these issues, come and join us if you like.

LOL< that's the first time I ever thought of flabby as good. But you may be right.

Yoly, I'm going to do exactly as you suggest. No weigh in for a while. And for the people that said work harder, I will be. Thanks for the good advice!

More jiggle? That's weird. Maybe you should just up your cardio. You say you're getting more muscle definition so that's a good sign

Oh, also forgot to say that if your jiggily it is a sign that you are losing fat!!!

What has happened is that the fat in your cells has been used but your body doesn't really know what is going on and doesn't want to shrink accordingly, instead your fat cells fill up with water, that's why you are much more jiggily now then you used to be. As your body becomes adjusted to this new way of life, i.e. more excercise, you will lose all that water in your fat cells and they will shrink. You are on the cusp of a major wooshie and or inch loss. Your job now is to keep up doing what you are doing to insure that your body understands that this is a permanent thing.

                              Good luck -yoly
