  • Ketostix still won't turn purple

I did a religious 14 day induction as I have in the past and my wife for the first time decided to join me on my 14th day so I decided to extend another 14 days with her. This is her first week and my third week. She did not loose any weight at all so far, however, I have never seen such a dark color of purple on a ketostick in my life while mine hardly, bearly, ever goes to the first shade of some pink....how the heck is this? she eats more than I do and we eat the same thing. I also have been stuck at 237 for some time now with no budge.????can anyone realate? She is just under 5 foot and 105 now,,,I know, I know....why is she on a diet right? well, believe it or not she recenly has gained 15 lbs. and wanted to nip this in the bud, afterall isn't the first 10 lbs of unexpected weight gain over 40 the possible beginning of an end. thanks, Roo.

    Roo,

I would check the water intake for both of you. I drink over a gallon every single day and I never get more than the palest shade of pink. My husband drinks his diet sodas and NO WATER and his strips are so purple it could be Barney on the stick. However, I am losing inches while he is staying at the same weight. Actually, we are both at the same weight, but I am melting with inches. I would check the water intake to be honest.

Also, lots of people don't put too much stock on the strips as they are a tool, but as long as you are in ketosis ( some of the other symptoms are there) then you are fine!

      Dear Roo,

Have you tried using the sticks first thing in the morning when you go to the bathroom? I think I read elsewhere on this board that was some advice another senior member gave to someone else facing the same problems as you. And yeah also what Babydreamer was saying about the water. If you are drinking so much water maybe the water is diluting the ketones so the effect is taht you won't see it as purple as it could be?

I went thru 2 bottles and they never worked for me and that happens to a lot of folks. If your losing, its working. Don't waste your money on them.
Dark purple generally means that your urine is consentrated and your not drinking enough water, so thats not a problem. The sticks only show that fat is being dissolved. Any change shows that your in ketosis so that good but the sticks are mostly a waste of time and money. The scale is a much better indicator, even a tape measure is a better.

I agree with Lynn! I hardly ever got the sticks to show a slight change. So I quit buying them .
One way I can tell that I am in ketosis is by the strange taste in my mouth, kind of a metal taste. Must be the taste of burning ones own fat. Yuck!

Re: Ketostix still won't turn purple

Well thanks folks, I would have to say that every time I diet I go for the water and my wife don't. I'm gonna experiment with hardly any water for one day just to see. i know I used to turn them dark in four days and stay there.

When we were serious body builders "back in the day" it was vital to NOT to get the strips to turn dark purple as it was THE sign of muscle tissue and organs depleting also, including the heart muscle. It is also said that hard core body builders become STUPID in time because of many hard core contests and lengthly inductions with no carbs would turn the stix a darker shade of purple and has cause their brain to melt some from extreme ketosis for long periods of time trying to reach the 4% fat mark for a contest, this is fact and I won't argue this LMAO. I have witnessed friends to become stupid over the years! The strips are very important no matter what.

The trick with the stage frieks LOl is to stay within the range of burning fat ONLY with the strips and not the muscle tissue and they are the extreme example of this science. Carbs were adjusted 3 times a day and usually was lettuce being weighed. Thanks, I'm glad I'm not alone, I nearly have come to the conclusion that I have damage my system over the years fiddling with INDUCTION WITH NO CARBS. They say that the bodys natural way to metabolize fat and carbs can be taken away from ya playin' too many times like this without carbs. God I pray. I don't see nearly the responses that I used to. This IS my first induction with some carbs like the book says as I am on my way to the lifestyle way this time. Roo

Here's a link to a post that Not2Late wrote about ketostix

I agree with the others...save your money for the new clothes you're going to need, and just trust the diet.
I've managed to lose my weight without ketostix!

Anything done to extreme is bad for the body. Your right, we all need to think of this plan as a diet, but also as a way to heal what we have done to ourselves over the year and to get healthy. Thats why Atkins is a good plan, but ADBB's plan. Eat whole foods and not low carb junk. Exercize and drink your water.
