  • Losing Pounds, But not inches?

Okay....so far I've been hearing (reading) about people losing inches, but not pounds, but I am doing the opposite. I am on day 16 of induction and have lost 20lbs so far...Woo Hoo Woo Hoo, but before the party.....I have not lost any inches, none. I exercise 5 days a week and have been strict on this diet, not cheating.....what's going on? Could this all be water weight?

    Thanx

    WOW, 20 pounds! That's terrific!

As for the inches .. hmmm... what kind of exercise do you do?? Cardio? Weights?

20 pounds of water weight isn't impossible, but at your weight, highly improbable. It's likely however that you might be experiencing some loose fat pocketing that usually follows a huge weight loss like yours. I second Betty's question about exercise.

With you being so close to goal already, exercise makes a huge difference in weight loss and toning. The skin will shrink and accomodate your new size, but drinking plenty of water and exercise makes this happen fastest when accompanied with this way of eating.

Excellent job on your success! 30% weight lost in induction is absolutely amazing!

Just keep on doing what you are doing and let time do it's job. It's pretty easy to get impatient, and patience is a large part of this diet. Sometimes your body needs to take stock of the situation before it does it's thing.

You can do things like re-evaluate your menu, double check your portion control and your water intake....don't forget the Review My Menu forum if you want an objective set of eyes to have a look at what you are eating.

It's also easy when you're at the board here to think that everyone around you is dropping inches and pounds like ducks off a water's back! (lol) We all go through weirdo times like this though, and more often than not, change is right around the corner for you.

where are you measuring that you have no inches lost? you aren't going to shrink in height you know.

20 pounds of just water would be the size of 2 and 1/2 gallons of milk. 20 pounds of fat would be the size of 20 butter boxes so you have lost inches just not where you are measuring. for the original 6WEC challenf you measured your chest at the bandwidth, the biggest part of your chest, your waist, your hips your thigh your calf your upper are and your forearm. Are you checking all those places? Do your clothes fit any loser? if so you have lost inches.

Hang in there we know you are getting healthier and smaller doing yuor Atkins and now all you have to do is believe it too and keep working your Atkins both the eating and exercise parts as you become a big loser.

          Happy low carbing.

Re: Losing Pounds, But not inches?

Thanx for all the encouragement!! As for exercise...I am going to curves five days a week. As for measuring...I measure chest, waist, hips, thighs and upper arms. I am also wondering what is loose fat pocketing?

Thanx again! I won't throw in the towel just yet

What I call fat pocketing others call "jiggy puff". It's when the fat goes loose in your skin and you just feel flabby. It is temporary and goes away with toning, whooshing and time. It is usually something that happens every few months or so, and is especially pronounced the more weight one has to lose. I know right now I have some loose fat, but this is a good sign. It means that while the tape measure itself isn't making any proclamations, the fat, itself, isn't as dense as it was.

                    Too true, mima!
I have lost one and a half shoe sizes, my posh hats fall down over my ears and my watch now fits 3 inches further up my arm than before Atkins as well as my rings all needing resizing more than once.

Stick with it and you will soon see the difference I am sure.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I'm not sure what your Curves' routine is, but I strongly encourage you to add some rigorous cardio to your exercise regimen. In my biased view , nothing transforms your body quite like cardio! And I mean SERIOUS cardio, not a leisurely stroll around the block! Invest in some good walking shoes, and walk at least a mile a day BRISKLY. To the point you are sweating....believe me, you will lose those inches!

AAAAHHH That's what's happening!! The other day I was looking at my tummy in the mirror and was shocked to see all this FLAB.....I didn't know what was happening, thought maybe it was extra skin or something.....Gross! Hope it goes away soon, but glad it is a good sign

When it's loose, you're going to lose it!

I lose very strangely. I will have 2 weeks of nothing, inches or pounds. Then I lose some inches. Usually around week 4 of no scale losses, I will drop 3 pounds in one week and then I start the cycle again. I really don't mind because in the end it really is just coming off when it's ready.
