Its my 14th day, and my ketostix tell me I have small to mild amounts of ketones in my urine. Does this mean I've made it through induction? By the way, I've gone from 285 to about 268 in 14 days.

Re: 14th day, small to mild ketosis, am I through induction?
Don't worry about the ketostix--they really don't tell you anything extremely important like you are losing weight. All they tell you is you are burning fat, but it won't tell you if that's the fat you ate for lunch or if it's the body fat on your thighs or stomach.
As for ketosis, you will be in ketosis the entire time you are on this diet.

woo hoo for you weigh to go. Read chapter 13 of your DANDR and see if you are done with induction and ready to move to OWL or you want to do a longer induction. Your 14 days are done and with the number of pounds you lost and the number you need to lose you can look at the charts in DANDR and see what your netabolic resistance is and your approximnate CCLLby the book atkinseer

Ha, you guys are great. I've been bobbing up and down the last few days and I'm not sure why. I haven't done anything different, as I've decided to try the extended induction. Its not that bad really. I'm down to 265, 270 was my plateau with all other diets. My biggest concern is calories. I can't find anything that tells me how many calories I should try to be at. My mother has gone from 220 to 145 by staying under 20 carbs and 1000 calories per day. Everyone says I'm too big to try that, so how many calories should I aim for? Oh yeah, I'm 5'8" 265lbs.started induction 11-25-05 (Day after Thanksgiving)
7-27-2005 285lbs.

Do you use fitday.com to track your food intake?
If so you can look at the Reports section and choose the report called 'calories burned'
It will show you a pie-chart and table listing the calories your body needs for 3 areas of your life depending on what figures you have entered.
It shows :
Basal - the bare minimum needed just to life and breathe
Lifestyle - what it works out you burn with whatever level of activity your normal lifestyle needs (if you have an active job or sit at a desk all day)
Exercise - what calories are burned from whatever exercise you enter each day.
You need to eat at least the Basal amount to stay healthy, and more if you do a lot of exercise or have a very active lifestyle.
If you eat 500 calories per day less than the total calories needed you should be able to have a steady one pound per week loss based on the fact that 1 pound of weight lost = 3500 calories 'deficit'.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
