yep in the 2002 DR ATKINS NEW DIET REVOLUTION known as DANDR around here Dr Atkins changed from carbs to net carbs for his counting. During induction your maximum amount is 20 net carbs with the majority of them coming from your acceptable veggies listed in chapter 11 of DANDR. if you don't have the book please invest the $7 in yourself and get it.
by law anything labeled as fiber on a nutritional label as to go in your mouth and come out your butt unmetabolized so Dr Atkins told us not to count those carbs since we can't use them because of the human digestive system. now if you had multiple stomaches like a cow then you would digest them and use those carbs for fuel.
I agree with the Net Carbs as defined by total carbs subtracted by fiber carbs. There are certain brands (cough... Atkins) that are promoting net effective carbs or voodoo science on what the real effect of their products might be to your system. If you are doing OWL, that might be fine and dandy as you are trying to find your CCLL and seeing if glycerin really does affect your blood sugar. In Induction, leave the voodoo to the doctors and low carb marketers, and go back to the tried and true (carbs-fiber methodology). Do you want to risk a stall on the basis of some marketers claim?
