  • Should I be worried?

Yesterday we had dinner at a friends house. He smoked some pork loins and they tasted great and were really moist. He later told me that the secret is that he marinates them in Dr. Pepper for 24 hours!! My question is should I be worried about the amount of carbs in the pork? I had two or three slices. Does a marinade add carbs to a piece of meat?

    Re: Should I be worried?

You will have ingested some extra carbs no doubt because of the sugar/high fructose corn syrup in the marinade but there is no point worrying about it now

Watch out for any cravings and prepare for them so you can stay on plan.

Just think of it as a learning curve and remember to check for added sugars before you eat anything - and next time you eat away from home just ask what is in the food so you can make an educated choice about what you decide to eat.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

People always do this to me. My mum made cauliflower cheese and used some sort of 'cheese' sauce. Later I found out it was a white sauce filled with glucose syrup and sugars and flour. Gah!

well, the only way to make sure is to cook yourself..

I just found out that some of the beef sold in a discount here is "kitchen ready" which means they added salt aroma (yes, beef aroma) and glucose... even with fresh meat I now hate to watch the labels *grrrr*.

In time you will become so used to reading the labels.

It really is quite scary to see how much stuff is "added" to foods.......

well, the only way to make sure is to cook yourself..

That's tough to do when you're invited to someone's house for dinner.

I will be going to my in-laws for dinner, I've already asked my MIL what she's making. If you know the ppl well enough, ask first. I always try to at least eat a bit before I go to someones house for a party etc, so i'm not starving.

Stay away from any sauces if you don't know how they are made, including cheese. Most cheese sauces have alot of flour in them..that's what gives them their texture. BBQ sauces are full of sugars, as are many tomato sauces. In induction, i tried to make sure I ate mostly veggies when eating at other peoples houses (no sauces on them) If i wasn't sure about the meat.

I wouldn't think you had an enormous amount of carbs if it was just marinade. Most likely not enough to knock you out of ketosis unless you ate a huge amount. Drink lots of water, keep up your exercise and just keep doing what you were doing and you will be fine.
