  • I'm now on extended induction due to laziness

    Hello fellow extendees!

In my 14 day induction, I've lost 14 pounds and a mere 5 inches total. A little disaapointing, but I'll take it. I've decided to stay on strict induction for as long as possible until it's feasible for me to move on to OWL. I'd like to stay here until I have my last 10-20 pounds to lose, but I really don't think I can go for that long.

I have a problem. I need to get on the exercise wagon again. I just don't feel like it and am being lazy. I don't know what I was dreaming last night/early this morning, but right before my eyes popped open for the day, I distinctly heard the words, "The more you exercise, the quicker you'll lose weight." It's a little inspiring so I've started rereading Dr. Atkins book, the chapter on exercise. 30 minutes a day isn't that much really, but I'd like to ask what works best for everyone. I have this belly paunch that needs to go and I have huge thighs and fat calves. My upper arms are big. So I need exercises that are specifically for those areas. I think my rear end is as big as a barn at size 20 pants, but my hubby says it's perfect. (Makes no sense to me at all). Any advice for this?

We have many of the same problem areas. I think I noticed a great deal of loss when I began doing the treadmill for atleast 30 minutes a day. You may want to post this in the exercise forum for those gurus.

      Hi Kate,

14 pounds is great!! I'm starting extended induction today after losing only 7.5 lbs in the first 2 weeks. However, I have been exercising almost every day and I really have noticed a big difference due to that. I also have stomach, thigh, butt issues, and I've found that doing a mixture of cardio group exercise (like kickboxing, step) as well as walking when I can't get to the gym has really helped. I also take some sculpt classes that specifically target the lower areas and the abs. They really help.

Like you, I also have problems with getting motivated to exercise, but I find that taking group exercise classes helps because it's at a scheduled time and I treat it like an appointment that I can't miss. Also, once you get to know people in your classes you may find that you look forward to seeing them! I know some people are intimidated by group exercise, but don't be! Try and you might like it. Good luck with your extended induction!

walking is a great exercise and as you get in bettershape you will quickly increase your speed and didstance in those 30 min.

Thanks. I don't think I do the leaotard in public. People will run away screaming! lol I don't mind walking and I imagine the hills around here where I live is only a boost for a better regimen for me. I'm thinking I will also pull out my old Richard Simmons, Exercising to the Oldies tapes. Those will get me moving.

Hey, whatever it takes. I don't think people wear leotards to the gym anymore, either. lol At least not at my gym - big t-shirts are popular. Definitely get going on the exercise. Soon you'll find you are looking forward to it. It will also help shrink and tighten you up all over. And help with the dreaded saggy skin issue.

I can't afford a gym even if I wanted to. I will be reduced to lifting gallon paint cans for my arm definition, but hey, whatever works has got to be better than doing nothing. Plus, I can wear the leotard at home! lol

Kate, I love the Walk Away the Pounds tape. Its awesome and starts with one mile and goes up to 4 miles. They are great for folks really out of shape like I was.

The walking part sounds awesome! Whatever you do, wait until later to begin any weights or strength training. I belonged to a gym quite a few years ago, and I was looking to tone down. I did alot of weights and the stair climber, and wound up building muscle under the fat, and my butt was bigger than ever! LOL! The fat didn't go away until I began cardio.
                    I did it!!
