Ok I am back Again with more questions.First I wanna thank everyone for taking the time to answer them.Since the headaches were not getting any better.Last night I got to thanking is it worth it??? I did cheat(only to try to get rid of them)I had a bowl of brown rice...then waited then had a apple and a banana a bit later.Still had a severe headache at bed time.Well this morning I am back on Induction.Im gonna try to tough it out for now.During my doubts last night I was reading up on a few things. These questions do not mean Im dropping out I want to lose this weight so Im gonna try to hang in for a while see what happens. Some of my concerns is how does chlorestrol drop? When we are eating things that cause chloresterol (except the carbs carbs cause it to rise as well as eggs etc)

Just some health issues I am concerned about for in the future after I lose weight.

I even thought about making my own diet last night.Where I would cut way down on the amount I used to consume.ONly drink water.Eat more fruit and veggies with some meat like chicken or fish. What do you all think about that?

I just am tired of feeling bad.I am not sure if its worth that with the work that I do.I am just baffled at the headaches I guess and frustrated.I felt so good the 1 st week. And this past week(2nd on induction)I feel good in the morning then that headache creeps up in the early afternoon till bed time.

    Thanks for everyones time.
    Laurie

    Re: Concerned about long term

    Hi again, Laurie

I see your attempts to rid yourself of your headache as shooting yourself in the foot, quite honestly. You're likely experiencing the headaches because of carb withdrawal and the switching over of your metabolism. It's sucky and it takes some of us a bit longer to go through than others - but most of us did/do go through it. By eating the rice/banana/apple, all you did was throw your blood sugars a curve and set yourself back farther on the "getting through induction flu" scale.

Cholesterol. This is addressed quite well in DANDR. Eating fat doesn't make you fat. You've got a whole site full of people here that prove that Eating grains doesn't cause us to moo or sprout - and eating cholesterol doesn't cause high cholesterol. It's not quite that simple.

Eating high fat in the absence of high carb actually lowers cholesterol levels. Eating high carb and low fat has the potential to do the same thing (although that wasn't my own personal experience). - You just have to pick your poison, so to speak.

I'd suggest more frequent meals through-out the day to help you keep your blood-sugar regulated. It sounds to me as though you're experiencing mild crashes later in the day. Eating more frequently and spreading your carb intake fairly evenly over those small meals will regulate everything much better and you'll likely snap out of your funk in no time.

    Hang in there!

      Re: Concerned about long term

Around day 7 I was still feeling hideous but by the end of week 2 I felt like myself again. I felt it was sort of like my penance to be paid because of all the years of bad eating.

If you feel this is going beyond the 2 week mark you need to get to your doctor and talk to him. Do you go to a chiropractor? This might be a time to go to him as well if you are experiencing headaches. Could the headaches be related to a job that you do? Are you at a computer screen all day? Is it eye strain translating into a headache?

2big will hopefully chime in about the cholesterol issue because I'm not too knowledgeable on that.

Going your own way and making your own diet...well, nobody can say how good/bad an idea that is, or what it might do to you. That's between you and your body. Certainly, eating as you describe is better than returning to old carby eating habits! You may want to check out the Low Carb sister board that we have and ask those folks opinions.

I'd say if you aren't feeling better at the two week mark you need to go to your doctor.

I had really bad headaches for about a week and a half. I just took a lot of Advil and drank bottle after bottle of water. It seemed to help a little. I cut out all beverages except water. I would take 3 Advil in the morning, and a few more later in the day. The Advil was temporary relief, but it never quite went away. The water seemed to make a bigger difference. By the 14th day, I had no more headaches. These headaches are different from the usual ones...they're very sharp and don't seem to respond well to medication. But once I got through them, they haven't come back.

My main concern with the headaches is because I did not start getting them until a week after I was on Induction.I would have assumed it would have started the first couple days but it didnt.Today makes my 2 week mark(well exception of last night eating the fruit)and I am still getting them. Its already starting to come on.I did feel great when I woke up this AM.Im back on Induction today and Im just going to tough it out.Your right the pain relievers dont really help.As far as water I drink at minimum a gallon per day.

And Moochie Cat you ask what work I did.I work in a group home for usually 2 and half day shifts this week is a bit diffrent and that is why I am having a issue with the headaches.I came on shift mon at 7 am and I dont get to go home untill friday night at 11 pm.I dont sit in front of a PC all day and I dont even do any heavy lifting.Ive been to a CHriopracter 1 time in my life(i dont believe in them) sorry...lol...but anyways I dont think its a doctor issue because I havent had problems till the past 7 days or so.Ill just take it day to day and hopefully it will go away before all this overtime im working passes...lol...The guys I care for sure can be quite loud sometime..lol...

          Thanks Again yall.

Brook hit the nail on the head about the carb withdrawal and how the rice and fruit just set you back some in your progress. Induction flu can affect different people different ways. I totally thought I'd feel a bit ill on day 3 and 4 and then be better, but as I said, on day 7 I was feeling like total crap. Headache, body aches, nauseus, and unbelievably tired.
Combining all that with the stress of your job, I'm sure you aren't having a fun time at all, but trust us when we say it will pass.

And again, if it's not gone by the end of week 3, go to your doctor.

                Re: Concerned about long term

I just want to confirm to you what everyone else has pointed out in this thread already.

Induction flu does effect different people in different ways. Some people dont experience and of the symptoms, where as others experience them badly. Others just mildly and so forth. I was lucky no to have any but I know a lot of people in real life that have struggled with the withdrawal symptoms. Quite a few people have been put off by them, without giving themselves a chance to adjust.

You experienced them in the second week, this is very possible. But I can assure you if you "ride out" the storm and up your water intake, you will break through that "barrier".

Unfortunately, in eating the fruit and the rice was possibly the worst thing you could have done.

(but we all learn by our mistakes)

I hope this helps? Good luck.

                    Re: Concerned about long term

                    Hello Fellow Ohioan,

I too just finished my first 2 weeks of induction. I also had a mirgraine that lasted 2 1/2 days and then felt incredibly sluggish until a few days ago. I popped a few Excedrine Migraine (which may have some caffeine - probably not allowed but it worked for me) and it alleviated the throbbing pain. I was on this diet a few years ago and same thing happened. Probably withdrawal from the 6 pack of caffeinated pop I was drinking every day. I completely cut out all soda and strictly am drinking water. It's so worth it to stick to the Atkins diet. I've been on countless diets and this is the only one (besides taking Fen/Phen) that I don't constantly crave food. It's so awesome to feel free from that constant feeling of being hungry. Best of luck to you!

What about a jaw problem? I find sometimes I clench my jaw at night....it actually wakes me up sometimes(ohterwise I woudln't know I was doing it) ....and the next day I usually have a headache. There may also be a sinus infection...even though it might not feel like that. It probably is a bad case of induction flu....but a visit to the doc will never hurt.

                          Re: Concerned about long term

I saw your post about BP but no follow up in here was it normal for you? Does your headache respond to an OTC cafeine free pain med? if so take some. Dr Atkins was talking about folk on long term NASAIDs not occasional use.
have you checked your electrolytes? low potassium can cause what you are experiencing too.

                          Now back to cholesterol.
First less then 20% of your total cholesterolin your body comes from your dietary intake. the remaining stuff is made mostly in your cells and some in the liver. We need cholesterol as every cell in thebody uses it in the membrane constuction and to make manyof the hormones and enzymes we use. without cholesterol we would be puddles of fluid on the ground.

cholesterol has 3 big parts HDL LDL and triglycerides
Eating high fat in the absence of carbs the human body will burn triglycerides which is what is the storeage molecule of fats in most animals including humans so that number will go down. Atkins eating and exercise will raise your HDL which is the good stuff. this inturn will help remove from your blood some of the LDL and returen it to the liver for removal sa bile. ( yep that bile needed to digest fats isthe only way other then shedding dead cells for the body to remove cholesterol from the body). If you are havingthehigh fiber foods on the OWL ladder rungs then you are binding up some of that bile and pooping it out thus ridding your body of LDL too ( yep that is how oatmeal works).

So from a eating stand point you are decreasing TGs and LDL and raising thegood stuff. Can't do any better dietarily as long as you are following Dr Atkins advice and selecting healthy fats as part of your Atkins.

Now if you are genetically prone to make cholesterol out the whazzooo then no diet will fix it. You can however adjust your diet to give your body the chemicals in the foods it needs to slow that production down like the nuts, soluble fibers, and plant sterols.
