  • How Long Can You Stay On Induction?

Hello! I Have The Atkins New Diet Revolution Book, But He Dosen't Say Exactly How Long You Can Stay In Induction. My Starting Weight Was 215. I Am Now 200 Lbs And Need To Loose A Total Of At Least 70lbs. When Should I Stop Induction? I Am Working Out 3 Days/week So Far. Working At Night Makes It A Little More Difficult, But Not Impossible.

If you have a substantial amount of weight to lose you can stay on Induction for six months or so, or until you are within 15 pounds of your goal.
Remember that Induction is not the whole Atkins diet...and the idea is to progress up the rungs of OWL (Ongoing Weight Loss) experimenting with foods to find out what your limits are. This is the way you learn to keep this way of eating for life. Induction is the foundation, but it's not the whole structure.

While you are on Extended Induction you can take some time to read up on OWL in both DANDR and in the OWL forum (read the stickys) so you understand what that's all about.
The first rung of OWL is to add in five carbs more of vegetables a day....so if you wanted more variety you could step up to that and stay on that for a while as well.

Re: How Long Can You Stay On Induction?

Here is a great post which summarises Dr Atkins advice about how to decide whether you want to stay on induction after the first 14 days.

If you follow the suggestions and read the relevant chapters in DANDR it will help you make your choice.

And if you do decied to stay on induction for a while make sure you re-read those chapters now and again and answer the questions in chapter 13 again in case you need to re-evaluate your decision and move on to OWL.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
