  • Stalled out Week 4!

    Pounds lost:
    Week 1: 5 lbs.
    Week 2: 2 lbs.
    Week 3: 3 lbs.
    Week 4: 0 lbs.

Last week was a struggle. Out of town 4 days, having to eat out at restaurants, not sure the meat was sugar-free. We'll see next week now that I'm back home.

    Hi.

A "stall" or "weight loss plateau" is defined by Dr. Atkins as 4 consecutive weeks without loss of pounds or loss of inches.

See what happens this week and be sure to take your measurements as scale weight is not a completely reliable indication of fat loss.

That's fairly typical. Give this a read:

Some more info would be helpful as well...could you put your age, height, start weight, current weight and goal weight into your signature?

since you know what might have caused your scale weight hesitation this week I'm glad you are going to keep going and see what happens next week.

Did you no it is normal on any weightloss to have a scale weight loss hesitation 2-3 weeks after you start? it has to do with the body adjusting to the changes going on and some very complicated biochem and biomechanics going on inside. This is were many folk decide their weight loss plan has stopped working for them and quit. Glad you didn't.

        Happy low carbing,

          John,
Don't be discouraged. I went through exactly the same thing, only it was for two weeks. There were some medicine reasons (coming off of bp meds) that were part of that for sure. But, during my 5th week it's been flushing out again pretty quickly. Hmm, I just noticed, today makes 5 full weeks for me!!

Hang in there, you'll be losing again in no time.

Original goal: Lose 30 lbs by Mar. 1st, 2006. I made it!!!

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

Agree w/ the others. A one week 'stall' or even slight gain is nothing compared to the longer term. Frustrating? Sure, but at least you have a good idea of what caused it, plus look at it this way : you ate out for four days and didn't gain a pound!

              Re: Stalled out Week 4!

Oh, I am not discouraged. I was surprised at having not gained anything. One night I went out to Applebees. I ordered the steak with melted parmesan and grilled shrimp on top. (I know people have said they inject sugar, but folks, a lot of these places inject sugar, both in chicken and beef. I didn't think it would make much difference). I ate the steak, shrimp, and a side of broccoli. The steak was not particularly big, so on the way home, I stopped by Zaxby's and ordered TWENTY chicken wings, no batter, no sauce, and a side of celery and blue cheese. I got back to the hotel and ate the WHOLE thing. Very tasty.

One night I went to Outback and ate a 12 oz prime rib, steamed veggies (only the induction veggies) and a side salad.

Another night I went to Long Horns and had the Outlaw steak and a side salad with steamed veggies.

I also ate a LOT of fast food. I just ate burger patties with mustard and mayo only. I was somewhat dismayed to find that the packets of mayo listed "corn syrup" in the ingredients, which made me wonder about how much sugar I was getting.

For breakfast, the hotel had a hot self-serve breakfast, so I had sausage patties and scrambled eggs, or sausage "medallions," (linked sausage cut into pieces).

I ate a lot more than I would have normally, so I'm just kinda surprised I did not gain weight. Only 12 more pounds to go anyway.

As for measuring, I don't really do the measuring thing, but I think my clothes are a little looser than last week.

There is one thing I considered, but I've never seen it mentioned. Do antibiotics affect weight loss? Last week's Wednesday (9 days ago), I thought I was feeling foggy from a relapse of Atkins flu, but I woke up Thursday morning with a fever of 102F. Went to the doctor and it was strep throat. They put me on Amoxicillin, a common antibiotic. I have been on it for 9 days, and I'm about to finish. I wouldn't think it would affect Atkins. It did wreak havoc with my stomach for a couple days, since antibiotics like that can kill off some of the good bacteria used to digest food.

As a result of the strep and then travel, I haven't really been exercising, either. So there are a lot of factors that could have played into this. Well, onto another week, and we shall see...

oh I love your little yellow jacket

Yes antibiotics can cause fluid retention and can alsoi effect blood sugar control too.

You need to check with your resturants about what is in their steaks as many steck houses are now seving injected meat to be tenderer and tastier. Also many season with a sugar in it too.
