  • Think I might ditch the scale...

I've been stressing lately over how the scale hasn't changed much, even though I've followed the induction rules to the "T", (exception of alcohol on SB Sunday), been getting tons of minutes on the treadmill, etc...

Today I finally got a minor Whooshie... well, nothing is minor, right? Anyway, it was a 2 lb drop, and I guess maybe that's really not so minor, eh? As I've said before, I started out with size 40 waist jeans, now wearing 38's... and they are really getting baggy. Just a little over two weeks ago I went to a basketball game with my older brother and he never mentioned anything... I saw him late this afternoon and he had to take a second glance.. He actually said "You're getting skinny" to me. Well, believe me, I'm not skinny! But, there has definitely been a change since I started this WOL on 12/29/05. And, it's all good!!! With my 2 lb whooshie today I'm down a total of 28 lbs, which is awesome, but most of that was in the first 3 weeks. You know, almost nobody noticed those lbs. In the next 3 weeks I've only lost maybe 6 lbs or so, but my body is shrinking more than in the beginning. I also saw a nephew today that I hadn't seen since Christmas. He walked in and started looking at me and running his hands down his face... I asked what that was all about, and he said that he was looking at the change in my face.

Here I was, getting discouraged about the scale not moving.... Yes, I've read it here a zillion times... "Don't worry about the scale". I guess it just didn't register until today.

Hey, you veterans.... Keep preaching to us newbies!!! We need it from time to time...

Rick, I'm certainly no veteran, but I just want to say.

If you're thinking about stepping away from the scale for a while, it's probably the right thing to do. Inches are waaaaay better than pounds, of course!

I just got this weird mental image of the police, SWAT team, and helicopters outside of an apartment building, the police holding megaphones and announcing,

    "STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE!"

and a shrinking Atkins dieter in the window staring out at them like this
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

      Good move!

When i started I didn't know where a scale was, so I didn't weigh myself.
Best four months on this WOL!

I'm thinking about dicthing my weekly wiegh in as well. There is too much temptation!

It's positively addictive and it can be an emotionally roller coaster!

Changing.... I just about snorted water out my nose when I read your reply!! That was too funny... and I can imagine the local police in my hick town doing something like that!! Thanks for the visual! You're just too funny! Thanks!

Dave. Yes, I think I need to re-evaluate my thought process. I've truly been obsessed with lbs as my result up until now. Been waiting to get another picture taken until I reached a lb goal. Now I'm just thinking about how I look and feel instead. Of course, that could all change tomorrow.

Maybe the obsessing with the scale has helped me with this whole WOL, and driven me to work harder on the treadmill to get results. I've really got to give this whole thing some thought. I may not have had the physical results if I hadn't been pressing myself so hard on the scale. Does that make any sense to anyone else, or am I rationalizing?

Toss the scale, if it has emotions involved you don't want to go there. Use the tape measure. You can still push yourself to get the results from the tape measure just as well as getting results from the scale. Better even, the scale lies, the tape doesn't

scales are just something that meausres the effect of gravity on your mass your total mass and they don't know about changes in your ft mass your muscle mass and your fluid mass. If it bothers you and you feel obsessed by it then don't use it. Go by your clothes or your inches or even your friends opinion about you getting smaller.

It took me losing about 40 lbs before people really noticed....
I am a scale slave but I don't let it get me down if there's no loss, being since I have practiced this woe for 2.1 years, I have become accepting of the time factor.

Changing, you killed me LOL! I loved the visual thanks, LOL... the deer in headlights look..

i've been thinking about ditching my scale as well. i get on the stupid thing at least once a day. that's bonkers! i think i might tuck it away in a closet and only bring it out monthly or so. i have faith that this woe works and i think stagnant numbers, etc. might drag me off plan rather than keep me dilligent.

Maybe we should have "ditch the scale for 2wks" thread....weigh yourself on that day only, then at the end of 2wks.
