  • Question about being tired

I just finished three weeks. I have chosen to stick with induction for a while longer, because I have not loss much in the last two weeks (per week), so I am afraid OWL will not allow me to lose anything.
My question is that ever since the first week, I actually have been getting extremely tired. I know in his book (first one at least) he says that some people have this reaction the first week, but that it will pass. I am taking a good vitamen as well as calcium supplements. Has anyone else gone through this?
Yesterday's menu incase it helps with the question:
Brkfst: two hard boiled eggs, salt and pepper
Lunch: roast and two cups salad (iceburg lettuce, cucumbers, green peppers, a little parmesean cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper)
Dinner: hamburger (with spices) and a cup of brocolli with butter.
Night time snack: a little stew meat (maybe 7 1-in pieces) fried in olive oil with garlic powder and pepper.
Throughout the day, I had two cups cinnamon tea (decaf) with splenda - actually rarely do this.
    Thanks for any help.

    Re: Question about being tired

Are you eating enough? Eating when you're hungry, etc? What about exercise? I really started being energized once I started exercising regularly. I know it seems weird because you feel like you don't have any energy to exercise but once you start you'll notice a difference. Also, you did fantastic on induction in terms of your weight loss. Looks like you've lost 8.8 pounds! Considering one can expect to lose between 5-10 percent of your total weight loss goal, so you're doing fantastic!

Help! I'm in the same boat. I too am on the Extended Induction - started Jan. 11th, 2006 and have lost 17 lbs. I am in several exercise challenges - 3rd week of the 6 wk challenge. The last time I was on Atkins I lost 40 lbs and had a ton of energy. This time my energy level has been zapped. I thought it'd get better after starting an excercise routine. Well I've been doing treadmill, ellipitcal or bike for an hour 5-6x a week for almost 3 weeks but my body is so fatigue. Usually you get more energy with exercising. What am I doing wrong? Before starting, I drank at least 4 Mt.Dews a day to get my energy boost but stopped cold turkey when I started this diet. I now only drink water and have just finished taking my old Atkins 3 bottles of vitamins so I'll need to buy new. And yes, I do refer to the DANDR often.

      Typical menu:
Breakfast: 3 egg omelet in morning with shredded cheese
Lunch: grilled chicken w/mayo, curry powder, and fried mushrooms
romaine salad w/shredded cheese, cucumber w/Ken's ranch dressing 1 carb / teaspn.
Dinner: sirloin steak, fake cauliflower potatoes, small salad

Any recommendations? Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Hrmmm...the only thing I can think of is if you're eating enough food. I mean, it looks fine but if you're exercising a lot, maybe you need more? Or perhaps it's time to move to OWL, even if you stay on the veggie rung for a bit.

          Re: Question about being tired

you could have several things going on assuming you did get the prestarting Atkins blood work Dr Atkins recommends.

you could be suffering from yeast die off symptoms and as those get taken care of you will feel better check the yeast forum for home testing methods if you think this could be the issue.

You could be lacking in a vit or mineral check your fitday if you use it in the reports section and see if based on your food choices you are low in anything. Potasium, calcium, and many of the Bs can cause fatigue. Several recently fatigued folk moved to OWl and adding the extra 5 net grams of those induction veggies perked them right up.

Dr Atkins says the only folk he recommend eat more are the ones feeling tired so see if having a few more bites at each meal or snacks makes you feel better. if this is the case your energy level should pick up in a day or two.

There are several medical reason whey but the pre Atkins blood work should have ruled them out.

          Happy low carbing.

            Re: Question about being tired

Thanks for all the good info. I'm guilty- this time I didn't do the pre-Atkins blood work. My doctor wanted me checked out but I was going to wait until I had lost some weight and was going to compare to my new blood results to those taken from a year ago.

              Re: Question about being tired

Thanks for the input. I lost 6.4 lbs in the first week, and then slowed down. I am exercising (treadmil) though last week was a bad exercise week.

I recently had a whole work up for my blood (not right before I started this diet, but withing the last 6 months) and everything is good there.

In the past two years yeast has been a huge issue with me which I never had before two years ago (in fact, I was having a problem when I first started the diet). I stirred completely away from the cream and cheese department that first week. At that time, I had his 97 version, and knew he had said to stay away from those items. I am guessing that must be the problem, but I did not think it would last 3 weeks. I have started again today to stay away from the items he lists.

I will try to get to that part of the forumn again. I had read some, but have so little time to log in.
              Thanks again.

                Re: Question about being tired

I'd ditch the iceberg lettuce and replace it with a dark leafy green such as romaine or spinach and keep your carbs up to the 20 carb limit. Some folks find that if they do that they feel better.
