  • Either need some support or a kick in the pants

    Hi all,

I think I need a little help....have done Atkins before in the past, when I weighed around 225, and the weight just literally MELTED OFF, with exercise, right down to about 180. I have restarted many, MANY times, and although I always have good results during induction, and lose at least 5 pounds, the buck seems to stop there. I have been hovering between 175 and 183 for at least a year, and simply CANNOT get my scale to go under 175. I know inches are more important than numbers, but I also know the pounds also need to come off. I have been on Extended Induction for almost 7 weeks and have not lost a single pound!!!!!!!

I admit I am discouraged because the first time the wieght came off so easily. I know I had more to lose then, but I still have at least 50 pounds to lose, which seems like kind of a lot to me. Also, the past two weeks or so I have certainly been going bananas on 'allowed' sweets like low carb candy, shakes, bars....just because I got sick of the food I was eating and now find that I continually crave sweets!! I guess the key for me is I am not going to be able to add those things back into my diet.

Anyway, the moral of the story is, I went out of town and ate whatever everyone else ate, low carb or not. I didn't overeat and I am now up about 3 pounds to 179, so no major damage done (I don't think). But I guess I am starting over on strict Induction again, and adding Slim in 6 to my workouts, but could anyone give me some pointers or simply just some encouragement? I can't seem to lose after Induction....

Thanks yall. Your support is really appreciated.

The key is to switch it up, Try moving into OWL and see whether adding some carbs gets things moving again. Or add some new induction veggies that you haven't tried before. Or try cutting out cheese - that's a staller for some people. Also, take a really close look at your extended induction menu - are you experiencing carb creep, eating things you shouldn't (bars/shakes/low carb candy), getting all your veggies and water each day? Are you drinking caffeine, using aspertame?

And then, I'd recommend what you've already decided to do. EXERCISE! It will make a huge difference and may help to get things moving again. It should definitely help focus your motivation. Since you are having problems with variety, I strongly encourage you to move onto OWL! The first OWL rung is just additional veggies...then you add dairy, nuts, berries...all the way to whole grains! Some people that stalled on extended induction began losing again once they moved onto OWL. Read the stickies in the OWL forum and in your DANDR. A combination of OWL and exercise will hopefully get your weightloss moving again.

You guys have great suggestions. I am worried to advance up a rung, as I don't want the miniscule wieght loss I have to slow further, or to gain. If I start to advance, with healthy nuts, veggies, etc, how long do i give it until i head back to Induction?

I don't know what to tell you...as I am struggling with a 7 pound gain myself. I am scared to go any further up the rungs. I know that I over-indulged during the holidays, though. Not bad, just enough to screw things up. It seems that going back to induction is the only way to get the ball rolling again. I will be watching and reading this thread for encouragement, too! Thanks for sharing.

Re: Either need some support or a kick in the pants

Take a trip to the OWL forum and see how others found the move to OWL affected their weightloss. Many post that the move increased it!!

The first rung is just the addition of 5 net carbs more of the induction-legal veggies, so nothing scary there.

I think too many people stay too long on induction which is a shame as they miss out on the leisurely reintroduction of the various food groups and restrict themselves to induction foods and risk getting bored with the choices allowed.

Dr Atkins tells us we ought to be on the premaintenance phase for our last 5-10 pounds of loss, so to allow yourself time to learn what foods will affect you and find your CCLL you do need to spend several months on the main weightloss phase of Atkins (OWL).
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
