I started 3 weeks ago with 93 kg (1.76m) have lost some 12 kg the first week. But there it stopped. Now 2 weeks later I do not know what to do.
Without changing anything I got 2 additional kg!
A long time ago I did the same diet and I've lost continuously one kg after the other. The only difference now I have my multiple sclerosis (since 1983).

Re: Weight loss is not linear

Just keep on with what you have been doing so far - 12 kgs (about 26 pounds!!!) is a terrifically large amount to lose in just 2 weeks!!

Most of us experience a slowdown or temporary stop in the 3rd to 4th week on induction while our bodies get used to what has been happening.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Sorry - I didnt notice the bit where you said you had gained 2 kgs (4.4 pounds) after your first 2 weeks on induction.

Have you stepped up your exercise? Some people find that means they put on a bit of 'water weight' while their body waits to see what is happening to them.

Are you drinking enough water? Are you eating a lot of processed foods with salt in them? You might be retaining water.

After one month of doing Atkins I started exercising (last time that is) and then I gained almost 10 pounds. I lost them again over the next month along with a lot of inches....I think Elizellen is right.....if you are exercising...

am I the only one thinking that losing 12 12! kilos in a week, specially for a person who started at 93 is not normal or healthy???

If Multilingus is feeling OK and eating to the plan, I think it is OK.

Starting at 93 kgs (205 pounds) and losing 12 kg (26 pounds) over the two weeks on induction is not unheard of, and because this happened in the first week rather than spread over the 2 weeks might be the reason for a gain and standstill since then, as the body recovers from the shock!!.

Multi - can you tell us what goal weight you are aiming at?

Are you hungry on this WOE?

Muiltilingus: are you taking some special medication? have you talked to you doctor about this diet?
                Im a bit worried.

Hi, you're right! I started at 93 kg with a goal of 65kg. After one week 12 kgs lost - I couldn't believe it. The second week nothing more happened. But the kilos (3) came back!
As I understood Atkins the absence of carbohydrates inhibits the use of NEW fat and I continued to eat my eggs and meat (steaks etc.) all the time. Finally I stopped at 83Kg and without doing anything else I hope to loose more because my body simply cannot store anything and will have to burn more of my own fat, right? Unfortunately because of my multiple sclerosis I cannot do the exercises I would like (step aerobic). 2 years ago I did it 2 or 3 times a week. And I want to achieve it another time! Atkins is right I think and my body will have to obey...
Doing exercises will hurry up the loss. Finally nothing can stop it!.

Maybe your doctor can suggest some different aerobic exercises you could do? how about water aerobics?

                      Hi Elizellen,
actually the MS is stopping me. I am happy to be able to walk. I have to get a cure quickly. There I'll restart my sports! Unfortunately it will not be posssible to continue Atkins there...

                        Re: Progress

congrats on your big loss at the start looks like you had lots of fluid weight which was hanging on to you.

Remeber Atkins isn't magic we have to eat only enough food when we eat to satisfy our hunger and stop eating. OVer eat your Atkins and like any weight loss plan you will gain weight.

Are you on any spoecial MS meds? I know many of the newer ones were not in existance when Dr Atkins wrote DANDR so they may or may not hinder your speed of loss but with MS those take priority and if you lose the weight slower so be it.

I pray your meds are working well for you. I had a freind with prgressive degenerative MS so I know what you are saying abiut the exercise issues.
Are you doing any PT for your muscles? if so ask your therapist if you could increase the intensity of those with some hand weights if you have control of your limbs now. That would be exercise for you.

Hi Eleonore, I am not taking some special medication. I think that all the liquid in my body caused by cortisone for about hafl a year made it possible to loose 12 kg.
Now after that nothing more happened and my tests didn't show violet until friday.

Perhaps now I can return. My actual weight is 80 kg and with violet it will be possible to go further!

color isn't an indicator of weight loss on the stix just fats being used as fuel and excess of thast type of ketone in your blood when that urine was made. if you burn off the one of the 3 typoes as energy supplies you can have negative strips and be a big loser.

                            Happy low carbing.
