  • Thinking about OWL

I've been mulling over starting OWL...I've been on induction 5 weeks tommorow and I'm finding that I'm really missing my extra lettuce and spinach portions.

I was thinking to add 5 carbs of green stuff and stay at 25g pr day for a month...My main concern is that I still have about 35 lbs to lose and dont want to slow my weight loss down yet...

My cravings have all stopped now but my energy levels are not yet fully stable but still better than befoe I started Atkins plan...

    5 whole g of carbs...ooohweeeeeeee....

I also want to add soy sauce back into my diet...I miss it when I cook stir fry.

    Any thoughts anyone?

John, DO IT! I'm on the dairy rung now, and I'm actually losing more weight on OWL than I did in induction. Plus, I'm much more satisfied with the variety of foods I'm eating. The extra vegetables is great. On the dairy rung I'm having sour cream, cottage cheese and yogurt. AND because I'm still in ketosis and the appetite suppressant is still kicking in--I'm still under 20 grams per day for the most part.

Don't be afraid of OWL--induction really is only for two weeks. What has your weight loss been since you started?

I started OWL Monday, and I love it already. The extra veggies are great. I have been eating veggies at every meal now (I was too afraid to go over the limit on Induction), and its great. This morning I am having a cheddar and avacado omlette. Yummy!!!!

John, Don't be afraid that OWL will slow down your weight loss. I hadn't lost anything for 5 1/2 weeks and than started loosing again once I started OWL. The added variety of food is awesome! I recommend OWL to anyone!!

You should be moving onto OWL because you need to be loosing those last few pounds SLOWLY in pre-maintenence so you can be prepared to do this for life.

            Go for it.

if your soy sauce doen't have sugar added back to it for flavoring then it is fine just like certain vinegars arre allowed and others not.

                  Re: Thinking about OWL

its a personal decision of course... my husband did induction for at least 18months and he was fine with it. I was ready for owl after 2 weeks. I needed to move on or i'd get bored with the diet and quit.

Great responses from our OWLing members.

We all needed that reminder that OWL = Ongoing Weight Loss = the MAIN weightloss phase of Atkins.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Yes I know the one you mean...comes in a small bottle with a very round bottom..thanks I'll go and look for it.

And validrougue as to your question...

I was on a non Atkins diet for 4 months and lost about 20lbs....

then I couldnt take anymore and switched to atkins 5 weeks ago....

In the first 4 Atkins weeks I lost 20lbs... (Four time faster weight loss and mainly fat lost too!)

then I stalled for a week...

and tonight it looks like I'm on the move again...

I'll post tommororw but it looks like I might have had a whoosh today

                        John,
That's a fantastic loss! You lost more than I did during my first 4 weeks. The reason I asked is that unless you are a really slow loser (which it appears you are not) there isn't a need to stay on an extended induction. I think if you move into OWL you'll be much happier with your food choices. I've been adding things in and I've got to be in deep ketosis because my appetite is practically nil. However I've been losing like a mad woman the last few weeks. I too, had the post induction pause--can't call it a stall because it would only last about a week. If you move into OWL it will probably cause your body a little shock and it will release some more weight.

Also, if you move into OWL and start moving up the rungs you can always go back down a rung or stay on each of the rungs a few weeks.

I finally saw movement on the scales again...another 3lbs.

I aslo found out I have candida so I'll be staying on induction minus cheese mayo and mushrooms for a few more weeks...
