  • 3 weeks and nada

    Hi all!

2 years ago I went on Atkins and lost 40 lbs. Well it back with a vengence so I decided to go it again. I weighed 228. I thought that I was following the induction process and seemed to lose 4 lbs the first week. Today I am back up to a net loss of 3 lbs from when I started up again.

I drink lots of coffee and probably not enough water. I am now trying to work on those issues but do you think the coffee and lack of water may have something to do with it? By the way - yesterday I checked my ketone level and read moderate on the test strip.

Anyway - It's good to be back and I look forward to hanging around for awhile.

You only get one 'golden' chance.as I have been told..restarting will prove to take a little longer to achieve loss. I drink ALOT of coffee too but I also make sure that I drink 1 gallon of water per day. I was in a stall and had a whooshie last night and lost 3 lbs or so, overnight.
I think it's great that you are trying this again, and we are 'supposed' to get used to the way of eating and make it a way of LIFE, so hopefully we will all one day achieve that, though it's taken me a trillion tries...
Try posting your menu and are you exercising??

Caffine recks havoc on weight loss. We are suppose to try and avoid it, especially during induction. Also, water is a necasary to flush the system. You have to drink the recommended amount of 84oz a day. Try drinking more water and less coffee and see if you notice a difference.
Another day, in a new weigh!!!

Water is neccessary and will help with your weight loss. Caffeine is eliminated because it can cause sugar/carb cravings however caffeine will also bost your metabolism and not prevent weight loss. However I have seen just the little bit of creamer people use in there coffee stall there weight loss.

Thanks! I know that I drink way too much coffee. I will have to limit to only a cup or two of decaf in the morning and get used to drinking more water.

Good luck but I'd have to say that it is probably something more then just coffee thats preventing any weight loss at all. Perhaps logging what you eat each day and showing to some others might offer some more advice.

Bells and Whistles...........COFFEE! I am betting it is the culprit. Coffee is a diauretic and will lower your metabolism! Proven fact.
I gave up coffee for over 6 months to see if it made a difference. What did I learn? Everything in moderation AND if I drink coffee then I have to up my water to compensate!

Coffee is a diauretic and you should up your water to compensate. But diauretic's effect your metabolism by causing the loss of water weight which is part of your lean body mass. Loss of LBM slows your metabolism.

Not that I'm advocating drinking caffienated coffee here but nothing in coffee though except what you may put in it should prevent weight loss. It is zero calories and the caffiene should help boost your metabolism.

Again I'm not advocating this to say its ok to go drink coffee but that I think something else altogether or even if its what your putting in the coffee may be effecting the fact that your not losing the weight you want too.

                  hi there

my first time around I lost almost no weight until I bit the bullet and started drinking the water. once I did it started to move.... I wasted a good month, without results.

I HATED water! it made me nauseous!

                  I learned....

i got some good tips from the board here on getting my water in.

i remember someone said they had a water "goal" at 10am, noon, 2, 4 and 6. so, every even hour they had to drink a glass/bottle, when i tried that it helped me out.

this time around I just fill up a big 3 liter bottle each morning, and make sure i empty it by about 6pm. I like seeing the accomplishment. but it does take a lot of chugging..

another thing that helps me understand it. the way i figure, the weight has to go somewhere... so every time I'm annoyed about getting up to pee AGAIN... I think that the more I pee, the more I lose!

                  hope it helps!

Water's hard in the amounts we're suppose to drink it in. I know!!!! I just do it like it's some kind of yucky medicine. lol ... But, I do it. I miss coffee too but ... and, I actually have a 2-liter of Diet Pepsi that's been in the fridge for about 3 weeks now ... THAT is progress for me!!! I could formerly drink a 2-liter a day!!! So ... I know giving up the caffeine is hard!!! You'll be happy when ya do it!

I agree with everyone cut the coffe back and switch to decaf if you need cream use heavy cream but make sure you measure it has some crabs. AND water water!
When i finally started to drink more water i lost 5 lbs in 4 days just by drinking 64 oz a day! Its hard but once you start you will crave water and not coffee!
