  • I need food ideas for my birthday!

    Hi all

my 26th birthday is coming up next sunday. ordinarily I would have just had a cheat day. but I think this year I just don't want to do it.

what I did decide to do was cut myself a looooot of slack for it. So, I wanna have a really yummy meal, that still feels like a treat. even though I'm on extended induction, I'm gonna use the day like I was in maintenance, and eat from that list of acceptable foods. so, it won't be an induction day, but I'll keep it low carb.

    so, keeping that in mind.....

can you think of yummy things I can eat?

    favorite desserts, recipes, etc?

or even great places to eat, or types of food to eat out?

I can't wait to hear your ideas, and I think it's gonna be a great Bday!

I just had the Deep Dish Pizza (the receipe is in the forum) for lunch today. It was so yummy, but it was a treat. Not something I would eat more than once a month. There are some wonderful low-carb cheesecakes too (just skip the crust). Good for you on not having a cheat day. The best present you could give yourself is to be healthy, and to stick to your new way of life.
What would we do without it?

Do you have a Cheesecake Factory in your area? You could have dinner there, maybe a nice steak with veggies instead of the potatoes, and get a slice of their low carb cheesecake. It's pretty darned good, and you'll feel like you're being a little indulgent. They also have really great, inventive salads and the portions are HUGE!

Instead of focusing on the food to celebrate your birthday...do something fun. I gave myself a HUGE birthday party last year. I had a rocknroll band...dancing, music, writers who got up and read and a table of food. The food was not the main attraction. It had the regular chips, sodas and breads--but it had the sandwich meats, cheeses, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and stuff. I also had pork rinds. I didn't cheat, I had a blast and nobody was offended because it was all low-carb.

Yup, they do.. it's not bad actually. A little more grainy than the regular stuff but not bad at all. It looks like it's 6 net carbs and is made with Splenda:

I love steak & veggies at Timberline. Oh! I like the pulled pork fajitas at On The Border SO much. I just celebrated my birthday this week and made Linda's Raspberry-Almond Crumb Cake. It wasn't to bad. If you'd rather have a more traditional bday cake she has plenty of ideas for that too. Just stay focused on how amazing you look & feel and forget about celebrating with food. Instead, celebrate by getting a pedicure or a new hair style. A new perfume was my big treat. ~Pinky

Re: I need food ideas for my birthday!

My first year on Atkins I made a low carb Peanut Butter Swirl cheesecake from the recipe file here and I was the only one at my party who liked it!! Everyone else was polite, but they couldn't handle the splenda taste. So the second year I just gave up the whole cake idea and one friend offered to bring a fruit salad.
Both years the meals I had were perfectly Induction-friendly, which was great, but the desserts were slightly higher up in OWL than where I actually was. I didn't feel as though that was an actual 'cheat' though, just sort of a one meal jumping ahead sort of thing.

I'm so over the rewarding myself with food phase, and I wish I could empathically send that to everyone on the board here. It's so liberating.

Re: I need food ideas for my birthday!

When I 'celebrate' with a meal, I pick something Atkins-legal that I don't have too often (because I can't afford it everyday or because I can't cook it everyday). So I usually opt for something like a good filet mignon with a nice bearnaise sauce or a steammed lobster with butter for dipping. For the vegetable sides, I pick something legal--salad, some kind of steammed veggie. By the time I've eaten the steak or lobster and the veggies, I don't have room for dessert.
