That looks a little high, but since we don't count calories, I don't know what mine are. Where are your calories coming from? Since your obviously doing great and losing weight, I wouldn't worry about it, but as you lose and get smaller, you might want to decrease them somewhat.

How can it be high if my BMR/BMI is around 3900 calories per day? Do I need to be at 1800 - 1900 cals?

No, follow the rules of induction. Eat when you're hungry.Eat until you are satisfied. Don't go more than six waking hours without eating something. Drink your water. Take your supplements. Exercise. If you're doing that, you're doing great!

Right, it's only after induction that people find it helpful to monitor calories.

Dont count calories, count carbs and keep them under 20. Everyones calories are going to be different because our starting weights are all different. With your current weight of 342 lbs i think that 2,000-2,300 calories you are eating is perfectly fine. i weight 271 lbs and my calories come in between 1,400-2,200 per day..they average to be about 1,800 cals per day...obviously someone who weighs 190 lbs is going to be eating LESS cals than you or I!!

I got into this so I didn't have to count past 20. But, I am sure that my calories are way down from my old way of eating since I am not just snacking on junk all day.

It feels great, maintaining it is pretty easy too. I normally eat around 1200 calories, sometimes there's a few days under 1000.

I usually eat about 1500 a day. I do NOT count calories, it just seems to work out that way. My calories went down after I started OWL. I am sure that is the way the good Doc had it all figured out. As long as you follow DANDR, you can't go wrong!!
What would we do without it?

                        Good point, JandLsMom

Another thing to remember is that as you lose weight your body will need less food to be satisfied, so your food intake needs to drop as your weight drops!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: Ok so what is the avg calorie?

Hm.. This is is how I feel about this subject:

On a regular diet you would want to eat 500 calories less than what your body uses a day. Say it takes 3000 calories to do alal your daily activies. You'd only eat 2500. That way you'd be on your way to losing weight by limiting what you eat.

On Atkins, you limit your carbs so your body can't produce very much glycose and your body uses fat as its fuel to get the job done. So you're literally burning fat at all time of the day so calories don't really become an issue, because you aren't using glycose therefore you spend much more calories a day.

However I wouldn't eat excessively. You're not going to lose weight even on this diet if you eat more than what you can do You don't need to eat a 24 oz. steak with 90% fat. Just eat what satifies you as everyone else has said. Don't live to eat, eat to live.
I will lose weight, I will lose weight, I WILL LOSE WEIGHT!

stop worrying about the calories. Eat when your hungry and count your carbs and stay under 20. Your body will tell you when to stop eating. I have never worried about calories, i just follow the induction rules. i plug everything into fitday and so i know what my calories end up being..but i dont really care what they are. Follow the induction rules. This isnt a calorie counting diet, its a carb counting. If you count the carbs, and eat when hungry, you'll eat the right amount of calories. Dont get caught up on the calories! Later on after you have lost alot, then the calories will matter...right now they don't!
