  • Pushing Week 3! 10lbs down-Questions tho-

    I have been on Atkins for almost 3 weeks. I was 176 and then I lost 13lb in the first week then maintained 166 up to now. I am following it to a "T". On the weekends tho- I have been drinking the Mich Ultra low carb beer and sometimes the Diet-rite no carb, no sugar with Rum. Do you think this is hendering my weightloss from going down further? I bought the Ketostiks last night and did my first test this morning...It was dark purple. Even after drinking over the weekend. If I read this right, Purple is good? Unfortunaltey, I did not measure myself prior to the diet. I went ahead and wrapped the tape this morning. I have been logging my daily food, excersise and water in my own daily log. In the beging, I was eating alot of the foods allowed for induction. Week 2 & 3 I find myself eating hardley anything during my meals. Could this also be a henderince? I noticed in my chart that I lost alot when I ate more. Also- the Atkins bars allowed for induction... are they considered "Frankenfoods"?

    I have read all the threads on the first 2 pages. It definatley has answered most of my questions. By like they say- everyone has a different story and experiences. They way I look at it, I put the weight on, I can't just expect it to fall of as easy....You pay for your mistakes eventually. This helps people learn not to take their body for granted. They will see how hard it is to loose the weight and be sure not to let it happen again!

    If you are drinking beer then you are not following it to a T. Dump the beer and bars and see what happens.

      No alcohol at all during induction. Even the rum is a no no. But congrats on that 10lbs. If you cut out the alcohol you will lose even more.

      I have since re-gained a bit of weight, but that is soon to be coming off again!

          Very true. No since in doing this and ruining all the effort on the weekends right! I will cut that totally out- I guess i was testing to see what I can and can't have. I will probably due induction a while longer. Until I get it down.

          With the Ketostiks- Is purple where I want to be? Also- the amount of food I need is it safe to say - A bigger portion is better then my few cucumbers for lunch? Thanks for the advice.

          Also- question- while your in Ketosis, is this burning fat and making muscle or is muscle something I need to make? They say "your burning fat" and fat ways more than muscle. But if you don't have much muscle to begin with, why does the scale stay the same? (Unless muscle is being made???) I am doing weights @ the gym. 20 min. cardio & 15 min weight High reps. all muscle groups. Max in weight, everyother day. Walking @ 16min mile (2 miles) every other day.

            If your body has been given alcohol to use as fuel you will find your ketosticks register the acetic acid (?) that alcohol breaks down into, so although you are seeing a 'ketosis' reading you may well not be in ketosis till that fuel has been used up!

            Drinking alcohol will suspend any weightlosses till you have used the alcohol up, and as you are not burning the fat/protein/carbs you are eating you might find your body is storing those while it works on the alcohol too!!

            Any colour on the sticks is showing the presence of ketones as a result of burning fat (once you are no longer alcohol-fuelled) so darker is not necessarily better than lighter shades.

            As for the Atkins bars - you need to look at the list of ingredients in them to make sure they only contain ingredients that are on the allowed foods list. So if they contain fruit, nuts, starches, wheat flour, soy flour etc they are not induction-legal!!

              Well, you got great answers. I just wanted to point out what a great job you're doing in losing. Ditching the booze and hard stuff will just make life easier to lose weight.

                as far as i've heard, muscle weighs more than fat.

                that's why sometimes you dont see a change in weight, you end up losing fat, and putting on muscle... the weight evens out. but, the best part is that you lose inches
