  • Question about Sour Cream

I was reading the sour cream label...it says 2 Tbs is 2 grams of carbs. I love sour cream in my recipe for my creamy sauce to put over my roasted salmon. Is this allowed in OWL, or is it one of those weird ones I should avoid?

Is there another recipe for creamy lemon sauce I can use for salmon, if I can't use sour cream?

    Thanks!!
    ~Lisa

    Re: Question about Sour Cream

All I know about is induction, but on induction you can have up to one ounce of sour cream a day. That is about 2 T. so I think you can use sour cream. If I am wrong, I hope someone corrects me.

      Re: Question about Sour Cream

      you are right Deborah
Here is the quote from the list of allowed induction foods
      Special Category Foods
To add variety, each day you can also eat 10 to 20 olives, half a small avocado, an ounce of sour cream or three ounces of unsweetened heavy cream, as well as two to three tablespoons of lemon juice or lime juice. But be aware that these foods occasionally slow down weight loss in some people, and may need to be avoided in the first two weeks. If you seem to be losing slowly, moderate your intake of these foods.
Note the word 'or' in the special foods list, showing that you can have one of these options each day (not all of them)
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

        Re: Question about Sour Cream

Oh no! I had 10 black olives and 2 T. sour cream in a taco salad last night. Darn it! I didn't think about having all of them, but I didn't realize I messed up. Oh I am learning the Atkins ways though.

            hi carrie

i wonder what you mean by sugar...
is sugar listed in the ingredients? that's what you want to watch out for...

i wonder if maybe it lists sugars in the nutritional info, and i think in that case it might mean the natural sugar that occurs in dairy.

your best bet is to read the ingredients, and that's what you use as a guide

                Re: Question about Sour Cream

I don't mean to jump in and be picky about grammar and wording, but in all honesty, the "or" used in the quote from the special foods list is used to separate sour cream from unsweetened heavy cream, just as the word "or" is used to separate lemon juice from lime juice. The quote also says, "as well as" when describing the special foods you can add...so I wouldn't sweat it that you had olives and sour cream in your salad. Especially if your carb count was still within range. I don't think you need to worry too much about having had the olives and sour cream together.

We must have had a different English grammar teacher, Judy
When a list of words in a sentence are separated by commas with the last two options seperated by an 'or' I read that to mean all the words before the 'or' are alternatives to the word after the 'or', which to my mind means we can have only one of those options a day in addition to either lime or lemon juice. Just my opinion with no offence meant.
