  • Should I Stay or Should I GO? To OWL, that is :)

I have been on Induction for 3 weeks. I only lost 5 lbs on my first two weeks of Induction and a another 1/2 lb last week. Things are moving very slowly. I measured a week ago, but I have not re-measured since I don't really think I'll see anything in just a week. I planned on comparing my measurements monthly.

Am I metabolically resistant? Should I stay on Induction a bit longer? I guess I would like to move onto eating other foods, but not if I won't even lose the little 1/2 lb a week! I know I don't have a lot of weight to lose (only about 33 lbs total). Does that make a difference?

Thanks for all your help and input!

One way to see if you are metabolically resistant is to look your 2 week Induction results in the chart in the book. But there are caveats to that chart because Dr. Atkins assumed you followed Induction to a 't'---no food that wasn't in the Foods List, drank all your water, no caffiene, sweeteners limited to 3 servings daily, and you exercised. If you didn't do those things during the first 14 days, you most likely did not achieve maximum results and the chart will be off.

but coffee doesn't affect me at all - I mean (with caffeine)......I am also mixing it and taking the non-caffeine , but no difference.....you see I don't have a sweet-tooth, I've always craved savoury stuff like cheese, peanuts...............

so, just wanted to say that it doesn't affect my weight-loss anyway......

Since you are losing so slow have you thought of posting your menu so that the pros can see if there is anything that may be stalling you?

Hmmmm-m-m-m-m.... this sounds oh so familiar... if you read my introduction post, you will note that the more I tried to force a weight loss, the more efficient my body became with regard to fuel-usage. Even though am doing DANDR now, the past haunts me; and it is v-e-e-e-e-r-r-y slow going.

But at least it IS going! Better than the flip side (> 50# in <6 mos.!! )

I'm also guilty of caffeine, though. So I'm watching this thread. Used to consume close to 1200 mg/day, so feel that 200/day should be ok, and not affect me; also add ephedrine & aspirin sometimes to try & boost metabolism. Is this bad?? Have cut sweetner factor down about 90% too.

but regained ~20# in '07 in less than 3 weeks! And again early '08 ...Was in HEAVEN -got to 150, for awhile, then got too busy, and gave in too much... and... OK holding pattern "keep it together..."

Re: Should I Stay or Should I GO? To OWL, that is

According to Dr. Atkins, caffeine can lead to blood sugar instability problems. Cravings is a symptom of that. However, cravings are never defined as "sugar" cravings or "sweet" cravings. A craving is just the desire to eat a food---any food.

Moreover there are other symptoms of blood sugar instability. There's a huge questionaire in DANDR with those symptoms. Many of them aren't even food related, so don't fool yourself into believing that cravings are the only sign that your blood sugar is being affected by a food.

OWL is the On-Going Weight Loss Phase, which is the second weight loss phase of the Atkins Diet.

It looks like this thread got a little mixed up, LOL!

I am moving on to OWL because I think I want to eat different things. It that TOM now (which could account for slower weight loss in the last week ) and if I stay slow in the next couple of weeks, I'll post a menu. I was thinking it was coffee (which I could not give up) which was slowing me down, so I went to a half-caffine blend ... a couple scoops of regular and a couple scoops of decaf.

                          Thanks everyone!
