  • 3 Month of Induction Now Moving to OWL

After following induction levels for 3 months I am now ready to move into OWL. I am finding I am craving more veggies and I don't want to eat them and feel I am not following Atkins WOL. Have read the stickies, read the book and now want to just check in and make sure I understand all I have read. What I get from the info is:

    1. We basically are eating the same as induction (meaning we can still have out fat levels that we are taking in.

    2. We add a serving of vegetables that would be equivalent to 5 carbs (check the serving size to see whether that be a 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup or so forth.

    3. We only eat the vegetable 3 times a week the first week, and then can add everyday the next week, seeing that it does not affect losing.

I am so ready! OWL here I come.

Anything here I missed please comment.

Re: 3 Month of Induction Now Moving to OWL

you missed the stickie about the typo in DANDR chapter 14 is it supposed to say new food not new food group in that only have 3 times a week the first week and we use thast rulke for all new to use foods even if we have passed that rung successfully like is blackberries were out of season when you did the berry rung and you are now on the legumes rung when they come in season and you want to try them you eat them only 3 times max the first week you have someas part of your already accessed carbs Like if you are at 50 you don't add 5 more to 55 for just those berries. if you have no issues with them then you can make them a regular part of your atkins.

rememebr too the feed the hunger will still apply ans as you add back for carbs you will naturally be satisfied sooner so you will not be eating quite as much of your fats as before and slowly your fat % will drop to about 60%.

and if you check your DANDR tips you will see Dr Atkins says have a fat with your berries you should do that for all your veggies so if you are having more variety in your salad you still use your dressing and if you are increasing the size of your stirfry you still use the fat just don't add more for every new food but share your induction fats with your OWL foods

    happy OWLing

      Good for you Atkid

A lot of people get confused about the rule on adding the 'new rung' only 3 times a week which should be interpreted like this according to

So Eat the 5 new net carbs of the rung every day but if there is a food in that food group you haven't eaten like say jicama in rung 1 you only eat it 3 days of that first week you try it and another veggies (that you have been eating during induction) the other days
the bit in brackets I have added to make it clearer.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

aslo use the blood sugar stability check list in chapter 12 to KNOW if you are having an issue with the food before you add pounds back too

Atkid, congratulations for moving into OWL! It's great! I'm having a good time adding new foods in, and it helps keep me motivated. I'm even trying foods I never ate while I was getting fat, and have found some new favorites. I've continued to lose on average 2 lbs per week too...and the inches have continued to melt right off. I'm so happy you made the decision!

Thanks Valid, I really am excited to be moving on. I even bought a new veggie to try, the spaghetti squash, going to have to look up its carb content cause I am not familiar with it but have seen so many enjoy it I had to try for myself. I am hoping I can be like you and continue to lose after adding the extra veggies in.

I'm sure you will. Veggies are so good for you and so yummy! If you aren't exercising, go ahead and start doing something with your OWL and you'll be just fine. Remember, the more exercise you do, the more carbs (and I'm talking legal carbs here) you can have! Think of them as little rewards for doing your exercise (I'm talking to myself here as well as you LOL)

Thank you for this post. People, do NOT fear the OWL!!! It is the most important part of this WOL. You are NOT supposed to stay on Induction forever, no way!! You will still lose, I promise.
What would we do without it?
