  • YAY!!!! 50 lbs.

I haven't been here in so long but... I just had to celebrate I am down 50lbs. (actually 52 lbs.) I am so happy!!! I love this diet. It has been slow going now that I am getting close to my goal. Seeing small progress makes me continue. All the women who live around me do Jenny & Weight Watchers & seem so frustrated. I keep trying to turn them on to Atkins but it's amazing how invested they are in these diets that aren't working for them. I haven't been perfect but I am trying everyday to be better (still love those Atkins bars & coffee). Yay!!! It works-- I feel like doing a commercial!
Can someone tell me why extended induction is not good if you are within 10lbs. of your goal weight? I seem to remember reading that somewhere.
    Yee-Ha Thanks

You're doing great! Good for you!

Once you reach 10 pounds of your goal weight (or maybe it's another number someone can correct me on), you need to move out of induction and onto OWL so that you can experiment with other types of food to see what they do to your body. What makes you gain, lose, or stay the same weight. I'm sure someone can explain it better than I can, but that's the gist of it.

        Hi Zelda!

Congratulations on losing the 52 pounds...every ounce counts

Kate has it right on the money with adding foods back in once you get within the range of your ultimate goal weight.

My advise to you if you have been doing Induction all this time (by the book) is that you read over the OWL rung list and began from there. The premise (main idea) is that Dr. A wants us to add back in the foods one at a time to find out if there is an "alleric" reaction that causes weight gain (that's putting it super simple).

Best wishes as you enter the new rungs of this woe!

Terrific! You must be so proud!

Don't be afraid to move to OWL though... you still lose weight and the extra food choices are very welcome after a long period on induction. As the others said... you need to move so as to learn how different foods affect you so that you can maintain easily after reaching target.

                Re: YAY!!!! 50 lbs.

The others are right - you need to move to OWL to conduct the 'OWL experiment' where you will be both the scientist AND the lab-rat, and discover what foods affect you and how many carbs you can eat and still lose weight.
Dr Atkins said we should lose the last 5-10 pounds on the third stage of Atkins (premaintenance) so you need to allow the time for OWLing before you are that close to goal.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
