Like all busy working moms I try to save time wherever I can. I was in the grocery store looking for acceptable foods when I found Atkins shakes and breakfast bars. I am convinced I am not reading the label right because the breakfast bars have 14g total carbs, 7g fiber, 0g sugar alchohol, and 2g net carbs. Where did the other 7grams of carbs come from? It says on the box, "...This product is appropriate for induction (phase 1). What is all this about?

Re: Atkins drinks/bars?
it is about mythical magial noncounting counting carbs. run scraming from the store it those should ever jump in your hands again.
Follow your chapter 11 od DANDR induction rules and food lists and reread that section on how convenious foods even those with the words Atkins on the label are for emergency use only not time saving emergency use.
Check out the indution forum and the recipe section for make ahead foods you can cook freeze and nuke when you need them plan plan [plan and you will never have an unprepared time when you'd need those bars.by the book atkinseer

Re: Atkins drinks/bars?
I have found first hand that the bars actually stall my weight loss. When I cam e to this board I was using them, and people told me the same thing I am saying now.
I didn't believe them because at the time I was losing.
Well it cought up with me.
They are still energy that must be metabolised by the body, whilst it is doing that it is not burning fat. WE WANT TO BURN FAT! LOL
They are hard to give up though! My ADBB Journal here.

Re: Atkins drinks/bars?
Gosh I try to avoid them too, although they are specifically allowed, even encouraged in my version of DANDR (at least the shakes are, in the induction menu). I am weird and actually like the shakes and the bars too.
I bought a whole bunch in prep for starting the plan, but then read about how they can stall here on this message board. I use them as backup or as a little, occasional sweet treat.

Re: Atkins drinks/bars?
I tried one of these yesterday and it was the Pria Carb Select bars made by Powerbar. I noticed that it has 18g of sugar alcohol, which I guess is not an "impact" carb. I bought them as extreme emergency uses (I.E. I forgot my breakfast, etc.)
Does anyone have any input about the Pria bars?

Re: Atkins drinks/bars?
I know ..we all know ..I walked into the break room yesterday starving (big mistake never let that happen!) and there were M&M cookies sitting there!!!!! I was tired and really wanted one even after all this timeOriginally posted by ErinRachel1021Okay, it's not a matter of being busy, it's a matter of actually FORGETTING my lunch at home and having the option of the carb bars or the candy/crackers/cookies in the cupboards at work.
Or a donut.
so in the fridg I grabbed my bell pepper stuffed with cream cheese and avocado and sat down and had it for lunch it would be so easy to grab a cookie ..
but honey I really really like how my tummy looks now and how I feel ...I know if I eat those kinds of things it will get fat again and I don't want that ...so the choice is obvious for me ..not always easy but obvious and unbending
those bars and shakes are crapfood ..you body deserves real food and there is no difference between eating those and crap ...this industry is playing people into thinking this is a substitute for a meal...the idea is to retrain yourself to learn how to have the food food you need around ..or to eat enough before hand so you don't feel the YA YA's and eat junk...
...but I also want to say you are smart and free to do whatever you want to do and whatever works for you ..no judgement on my part that is for sure...if you can eat those ...enjoy them, continue to loose and do not get cravings ...
I just truly believe in only putting a large variety of healthy fresh low carb foods in my body and it seems to have worked for a while now so I am sticking with it....

Re: Atkins drinks/bars?
do you have a fridg at work? can you keep some things in it during the week ..that is what I do ..I keep things that are not perisable in my drawers and some stuff in our fridg..it is nice because then if someone else forgets lunch I have the "healthy stuff" and I can share
come to the cooking chat and get idea's or post a thread saying "I need easy snacks to keep at work" people will dive in to help
the thing that blows peoples mind is how much food we can eat...I am the only one who uses heavy cream for my coffee ..for some reason people prefer the transfatty powdered crap and think it is healthier
