  • help im not losing...

I've been on the extended induction for several days but I'm not losing at all ...it's so depressive since besides the diet I do a lot of workouts....my diet menu goes as follows: breakfast: 2 hard boiled eggs
lunch: 2-3 cups of asian-style-cooked meat (seasonings: oil, salt, 1tbsp of soy sauce, 1pkt of splenda) with a 1 cup of tomato
dinner: 2 cups of saulted spinach with mushroom (oil, salt)

workouts: 1 hour cycling and 30 min running

I'm pretty sure that I've strictly followed the rule of eating, but how come my weight doesn't go down at all? Really feeling discouraged...

ps. I accidently had some tiny pieces of meat cooked with sugar yesterday..only several tiny pieces and I don't think the total amount of 1/2 tbsp of sugar had all gathered onto them...but will it lead to weight stallation? I did a lot of aerobic exercises after eating it and I hope the carb that I had have already been burnt....is in intake of such little suar a big deal?

Do you think it would be better if I completely cut out carb intake in my diet?

atkins is not a no carb diet, but a low carb diet. you should not cut out all carbs. for induction you are allowed no more than 20 carbs but can take less carbs if you wish. it might be helpful if you show us your stats(staring weight, current weight, and goal weight) if you only have a few pounds to lose, you are gonna lose weight slower as opposed to someone who has a larger amount to lose. you are working out regularly, and gaining muscle which weighs more than fat, so it's possible the scale may not move. you may notice more of a loss in inches than loss of pounds.

if you haven't been using something like fitday.com to calculate your to intake of fat, carbs, and protein, i would strongly recommend you use it. your intake should be fat-65%, carbs-5%, and protein-30%. fitday is a great tool, and helps in keeping you from going over your daily requirements. you can also enter your daily menus ahead of time to make sure you stay ontrack.

are you drinking your daily requirement of water, you should be drinking 64 oz of water plus 8 oz for every 25 lbs you need to lose.

i'm sure there will be others along to give you more advice, but just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth.

good luck and happy low carbing

      Thanks for your reply.

Actually I didn't loose so much as people usually did during induction. My height is 5'6'' and my weight is 131lbs. I was originally 150 lbs and lost about 20 in the past 3-4 months through low-calorie diet, and then I turned to atkins in hope of losing the last 10 lbs. I went forth and back for several times since I cheated...so I restarted the induction and this time it has lasted for 20 days already. I followed the diet rules and did exercises regularly, but the scale didn't move much in the entire phase (only 3-4 lbs). Since I had my period during last week so I thought it could be the retention of water, but now the period has been over and the weight still doesn't move....I'm now kind a doubting if atkins work for me on earth...really need some motivation

          Re: help im not losing...

You said that you've "only" lost 3-4 lbs in 20 days of induction...and you also said you only had 10 lbs to lose.

That's 30-40% of your total loss. Most people only lose 5-10% of their total amount to lose in the first 14 days...so you are doing BETTER THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON.

The less you have to lose the longer it takes.

Keep at it, it will come off.

            Re: help im not losing...

When I started, I weighed 133, and it took me eleven months to lose 27 pounds. Yes, it definitely comes off SLOWER when you have less to lose, but IT DOES COME OFF.

Calculate your fat/protein/carb ratio as suggested above. Try to stay in the 65/30/5 range. Lots of water and keep up the great exercise. You will succeed! OH AND ONE MORE TIP....STAY OFF THE SCALE. Weigh yourself once a week and that's IT.

you hacve to make your fitday jopurnal public first before we can see it all we see is our log in page.

From your posted menu you are eating Atkins correct foods but not Atkins meals. Atkins is high fat ketogenic plan with some of our carbs some of our protein and some of our fats at each meal. you will find that moving to OWl is what you njeed to do as you need to learn what foods your metabolism can handle and how many carbs a day you can handle so you can be a goalie for life.

              Happy OWLing.

                Re: help im not losing...

I am confused..the intake of fat should be even more than the intake of protein?
isn't fat what we want to loose? How can we lose it while eating it as the most part of our diet?
If I eat 2000 cal one day and 1300 cal is from fat while I only burn 500 through exercises, I can't even stay on balance of fat intake and fat burn, in this case I'm should ve more likely to gain weight right?

i have a question for you, have you read the book DANDR. it is a must in understanding how this woe works. you do eat a high amount of fats with this plan, but the sugars are what you are cutting out. I know that it is hard to grasp that eating higher amounts of fat can actually help you lose weight, but it works, and the absence of sugars is what our bodies need to help lose fat and keep it off. just remember we do need to eat some carbs which should come from the veggies we eat on the induction acceptable foods list.

                  good luck

I agree with moniegail. Get the book, I bet your library has it. Induction diet should be 60% fat, 35 % protein and 5% carbs. I think your 1) starving yourself and if thats the case, your body is holding on to every ounce of fat that it can as a protective measure. 2) You need to eat the right foods, Your meals should all contain a protein, a fat and some carbs in the form of veggies.
Scramble your two eggs with some tomatoes and onions
Have a tuna or chick salad for lunch,
Dinner could be a steak with mushrooms, or a hamburger with a slice of onion and lettuce and tomato and then melt a big old hunk of cheese over the top of it all.
So many folks join us thinking that they can do low carb, low fat and get twice the results and they have never been successful that I know of.

                      Re: help im not losing...

Seems you didn't read your Dr Atkins New DIet Revolution book nor do you know metabolic pathways in humans.

it takes more of the eatten fat cals to move and react them from mouth to ATP then it does carbohydrates 400 cals of carbohydrates will give you the same energy used up as 1100 cals of fat.

Fat body storage or dietary needs a chemical hormone called glucagon to start the process that convert the fats to ATP. theis hormone exiats in the human body in a negative feed back loop with insulin. Insulin is needed for the sugar burning process which is how carbohydrates and proteins are used for fuel. Protein in the human body is converted to sugar for fuel! So if you eat your Atkins with your protein intake too high you are burning sugar for fuel and not stored body fats.
There are low carb low fat high protein plans but Atkins isnot one of them Atkins is ketogenic ( this gives us the appetite supression other diets don't have too) with 65% of induction calories coming from fats either in mixed protein sources or pure fats, 30% as protein and under 20 net carbs.

Do yourself a favor and invest $7 in yourself and buy a copy of DANDR or save some money and check one oiut at your library or buy it used. It will be the best $7 you invest and you are worth every ppenny. Read it cover to cover and then DO Atkins.

                      Happy low carbing

jonnydollar - this board supports the rules of the 2002 DANDR edition, where Dr Atkins after years of experience of patients' weightloss problems revised his original very low carb rules to allow up to 20 carbs, over half of which need to be vegetables from the allowed list.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
