  • I will be off atkins for a bit

Hubby did not like our grocery bill and he wants me to wait until Ia m completely done breastfeeding so I will have to leave atkins I am very sad I was doing so well and he freaked out with the credit crad bill (we have not eaten out since I started atkins) only a few tmes and he has paid cash so everything that I put on there is been groceries but oh well!
Just wanted to let you all know in case you do not see me for a while
Thanks everyone for helping me thru this and supporting me thru my short journey
    Hugs!

What is it you are buying that is so different from normal. I buy heavy cream, vanilla SF syrup and cream cheese, other than that all my foods are stuff that I would normally eat.

Re: I will be off atkins for a bit

I didn't realize you were breastfeeding....The weight loss phases of Atkins are NOT recommended for pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding.

      editing to add...

I know this website:http://dietandbody.com/Atkins_breastfeeding.html , states that there is nothing to worry about if you do Atkins while breastfeeding and they go so far as to say that human breast milk "with its high-fat, low-carb content, is ketogenic for the baby NATURALLY."

That sentence is wrong. Human breast milk is NOT low carb. The fat/prot/carb percentages for human breast milk is 55/6/39 (per fitday.com) So, high fat, yes. "low carb" no.

Re: I will be off atkins for a bit

Thanks ya'll well the thing is hubby always buys the cheapie stuff like prepackage meals that are high is carbs and sugars so they are cheaper and now that Ia m buying healthier stuff of course it adds up to the bill bgut he does not see that we rarely ever ever eat out since I started doing atkins so it offsets it or even is less ...he did call me and told me apologizing for overeacting.. we try to do everything cash so nothing gets charged but lateky he carries all the cash with him so I never see it so I just charge it I guess he was not expecting it and thought I was getting groceries for free LOL... so he said he will put aside about $500 for groceries.. that shuld get us by... I would not count that for diapers though as having two in diapers is expensive LOL
How much do you all usually spend on groceries a week? and for how many?
It would help if I knew how to cook good as it limits us to same ol same ol.. I think knowing how to cook would be cheaper in the long run too..

reading that article.. my baby does eat solids...but I wonder if I don't loose as fast as I am breastfeeding? I tend to hold on to my weight while I nurse and when done I loose really fast? weird!

hm....... Breast milk is high fat, low carb?

Can I have that on induction?

Yeah.... Atkins can be expensive........ I need to buy more in bulk... I think I'm going to buy a bunch of stuff when I get back to SF...... All the steaks, eggs, and seafood I eat really hits the wallet.

Re: I will be off atkins for a bit

ok hubby apologized for being rude and he told me not to stop.. I really did not eat anything yesterday until dinner as I was not sure what to do about things yet.. so I guess I am still on... he just said we will start doing everything cash again.. I have no problem doing things cash.. as long asI have it LOL he has been taking everything as he takes care of bills.. LOL... we have been trying to do everything cash for a few years and it helps to see exactly where the money goes so anyways he left money here for me.. so I am still going to be hanging around!

Re: I will be off atkins for a bit

Excellent! Glad to hear that you and hubby worked that out. We have the same philosophy (pay as you go) and sometimes I get stuck too when I forget to grab some cash off him (no he's not the boss of money - well, kind of - if we both start messing with the bank accounts then we'll be in trouble - so he hangs onto the cash but I can have as much as I want - I'm just too flaky to remember sometimes - heee). We probably spend about $200 a week on food. That's for 4 people. My 15 year old son is almost 6 feet tall and never stops eating. We don't eat a lot of steak, but there are great recipes using ground beef and cabbage which are fairly cheap. I also buy a lot of my veggies at the fruit markets b/c they are cheaper than the food stores. The family can eat pineapples or strawberries for $1.99 year round. We buy meat in bulk when it's on sale and if nothing's on sale then we just buy what we need. That's why some weeks the food bill is kind of high and others it's a lot lower. And while Atkins extolls the virtues of this woe in that we can have steak and lobster every night, um, most of us can't afford it. And get hubby off the prepackaged junk. Oy! This woe is much better for the whole family. So good for you keeping them all on the right track. I'm glad to hear you'll be sticking around.

Thanks lady in red.. I buy everything at walmart as most of the time I am shopping I have the three kids.. and if I wait for hubby to go shopping we may strve as he waits until last minute lol... yeah I can have cash form hubby as long as it won't put as in negative but I forget to ask him and when I need it I just use the card.. "tisk tisk tisk" sooo he will just start leaving money here weekly, he told me to continue putting gas with card as I won't need to leave the kids in the van alone while I go pay or drag them all to the gas station!

Re-read the percentages I posted. Breast milk is high fat and high carb (39%).

Thats good news!!! Glad you're still doing the plan - just look at what you've achieve so far - you're doing really well - it would have been such a pity to throw it all away!

My husband cut the credit card up in front of me!! He warned me before he issued it that there was to be no "I had to have it dresses!" bought on it, it was emergencies only since he works away! Oops - the little black dresses kept calling to me - hence - card is now in half!!! hehe!!

I tend to buy in bulk like alot of other people do, have one big shop at the beginning of the month in say costco to get all my meat and fish which I freeze, and then just buy my salad's and vegetables week by week from my local supermarket.

                              Keep thinking thin
