  • End of induction Please advise...

Hello all! I am on day 14 and lost 10 pounds (yippee). However I do not feel ready to move onto OWL yet. How Long can one stay on Induction? I finally got the "no appetite/cravings" a day or so ago...funny it was right after I started drinking 2+ litres of water. Thanks.

Well, the first rung is simply more veggies. I would give it a try and see how it goes. It's hard, but you don't want to get "stuck" in induction.

You don't have to freak out about OWL..... you can go to extended induction if you WANT but my advice is just to move on to the first 1-3 rungs of OWL... your loss won't slow THAT much and having the extra foods will be good on your wallet and your health.

This was the biggest problem I had last time around...... after 2 months on OWL I went JUST and gave up on Atkins because I was craving real food....

If you slow down you can always go back to OWL... Remember.... With Atkins you'll be think for the REST OF YOUR LIFE so experimenting for a few weeks won't hurt you... it will help you understand how carbs affect your weight...

my advice would be to read the info in chapter 13 and 14 and answer the questions in chapter 13 that will tell you if you are ready to move to OLW or not. remember when Dr Atkins talks about weight loss slowing he is talking about compared to the large losses in 14 day induction which is going to slow down even doing exteneded induction.

Think about Atkins WOE as a house induction is the foundation and once you got a stong foundation set it is time to put up the OWL framing. Think of each rung as different types of materials you can use to frame your house. you want to test and inspect them very carefully and spend quality time assembling this framing so your House of Atkins WOE lasts a life time and you aren't homeless when at goal your house crashes backdown around you and you regain it all.

lol--there are those rock solid analogies!

          ^.^ I love em.

Actually that makes a ton of sense. I'm not planning to move out of induction (and I am only on day 5 of Atkins) until I am confident that whatever I am going to add in won't cause my house to collapse. And when I am ready to move on, I plan on taking it slow. I'm not in any kind of rush because I want to be the one moving into the mansion at the end.

Best wishes experimenting further in Induction or moving on to the first rung of OWL.

Yeah, the others had some good advice. You can always do extended Rung 1 OWL... I think that would be a great choice. Pick the right veggies and your health and happiness will only benefit!
No stats. Not weighing anymore ever. Will post "before and after" pictures when I want to. The end.

Congratulations on losing 10lbs, thats a great start. I did Atkins last year and did Induction for 4 months and lost 32lbs. I had 5 stone to lose tho so I felt after reading the book and the case studies of people who had alot to lose I thought I'd continue.

I'd only suggest that if you get bored with what ur eating and want to eat berries (next rung right?) then go right ahead but if you are happy with Induction and have alot of weight to lose then stay on it for another 2 weeks and see how you feel. Maybe if you do go on to OWL then up ur exercise intake 1 extra day or something

                  Thank you all!!

Well...last night I checked and the Ketostik was light pink. I think I am going to stay on induction for one more week. I am going to continue with the water drinking and try to be squeaky clean. I figure then I will be in a better position to add veggies to my diet. Ohhh how I long for strawberries!!

I re-read DANDR and saw NOTHING about the various rungs of OWL. I saw where he says add 5 grams carbos but no specific "RUNGS". Is my book old? I just got it...

We go by DANDR 2002 here, and there is a whole chapter in it (chapter 14) about the way to add your 5 net carbs.
In my copy it starts on page 165.

Dr Atkins calls the list giving the order in which to add foods the 'Carbohydrate Ladder'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
