    Re: cleansing?

I don't see a problem with it, but others might. Probably has Senna, and or Cascara sagrada in it. Just keep well hydrated, and don't drink too much or you'll have your own little jet propulsion demo in the bathroom, if you make it there in time. Lovely thought, eh?

      Re: cleansing?

Senna tea can have varying degrees of "cleansing" effect. If you brew the bag for the recommended time, you may have a strong reaction, so if you do drink one, brew it about half the time the first time.

            Re: cleansing?

I wouldn't use laxatives to "just to clean myself out a little, maybe speed up progress a little". Water is nature's best laxative along with vegetables. If you are properly hydrated and getting the right amount of fiber and fats, you shouldn't need laxatives as routine matter. Using them could upset your electrolytes causing an imbalance and if you turn to them once, you will likely turn to them again and they can be habit forming. JMO.

              Re: cleansing?

It's one thing to need to flush for medical reasons, but laxatives and all that stuff can make your body become dependant. If you aren't "going" add more fiber to your diet via veggies first. Then try flax or psyllium. Make sure you're drinking enough water. All the laxatives and teas end up doing in the long run is stimulating peristalsis, making you poop.

                    Re: cleansing?

Yikes - now this IS a predicament! I thought we were supposed to take fiber supplements! I've been using Senna Prompt capsules, which contains psyllium husks & senna extract. Box says 5 capsules should 'produce' within about 8 hours.

I got the most awful stomach aches, prior to going; urgently, a few hours after each dose of 5 capsules taken with my other supplements. Once I figured out it was them and not TOM or something else I ate, I reduced the dose. I now take 2 only, and no problem.

If I'm having celery, I skip them.

                      Re: cleansing?

I don't think it is good to be taking senna regularly... I know that it is used in laxatives and it acts on nerve endings I think to cause a bowel movement.. you can become dependent on it ( I have had some bad experiences with laxatives.. they are evil!)
I would think it is better to use high fiber veggies or psyllium/flax instead of fiber supplements

                        Re: cleansing?

Ok - laying off the senna a few days. Used celery, steamed voilet leaves, and green boiled peanuts (I'm counting as a rung 1 veggie upon discovering they only have 1 net carb per serving - under 5 per can!!).

Had plenty of BM's all weekend.
