  • Extending My Induction

I think I have decided to extend my induction a bit. Today would make day 17 for me and I will admit to having hit the speed bump three times in the past 16 days. *sigh* It's sometimes difficult when its just you and a 4 year old.

Anyway, I think I'll stay on it a bit longer. I have lost 18 pounds since 1st of April...but only 7 or so of that has been from the induction....I might weigh less but its my TOM so I'm not stepping on the scale this week.

I think that for me, it's the best move. I just need to learn to do a bit better and to incorporate more of the veggies on the list into my diet.

Well, thats all for me.........guess I just wanted to say I'm an extended inductioner

That's an awesome loss! I decided to move on to the first rung of OWL after completing induction, since I'm wanting a bit more variety and my family is starting to rumble, lol.

18 pounds down has to feel good! Admit it!! ^.^

To be honest I havent even looked at OWL or any of the rungs.....I just know I need to drop a LOT more weight....perhaps I'll take a look at next week start the first rung of OWL...it just depends on what else I'd get to eat. If its nothing exciting to me then I can stay where I'm at.....*shrug*.

And yes, I'll admit....the 18 pounds that have melted from my fat a** does feel good!! My pants are all hanging lower on my waist. I have to keep pulling my britches up.....

        Re: Extending My Induction

Have you read this sticky thread about how to decide whether to move to OWL on stay on induction?
        http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...ead.php?t=5780

I think even if you do decide to stay on induction eating you do need to reconsider your decidion about not moving on every couple of weeks and answer the questions in DANDR to help you to decide.

The worst thing would be to stay on induction but feel restricted and tempted to cheat when you could move on and have some other foods perfectly 'legally'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Well...I will say this...I'm not bored with the foods on induction....I'm a rather good cook and I'm a fiend for hunting recipes. I can totally feel satisfied and complete with some of the meals that I have been fixing. I did read that sticky and I have more than 75 lbs to lose in total. It just wasnt what I put on my goal *I didnt want grandeous dreams right off the bat*. I also went thru and read the rungs on OWL and to be honest....none of it excited me except..what...rung 7 with the fruits. Most of the rungs before 7 did nothing for me because they are or were things that I dont eat anyway....example...I dont eat farmers cheese or ricotta...I dont eat nuts *shrug*....I just didnt see anything else I wanted except for the fruits. That in part was another reason for me staying on induction longer. The only thing I sometimes miss is pasta because I definately loved my crawfish etoufee on fettucine noodles *things like that*.....
I dont really feel restricted and tempted to cheat......but being a single parent of a 4 year old who works full time *me not her hahaha*....its difficult to fix her dinner and then have the energy to fix my stuff.....so the little lapses I had were out of exhaustion. I have no family or friends here....its me against the world so to speak. So when I work all day, have to deal with my attorney and the ex trying to take my daughter from me, taking care of my daughter, my rottweiler AND its my TOM....yeah....I have taken a bite of what Ive fixed my daughter because I just dont have it in me.
Ooops guess I got on my soap box....sorry
But I think you get it that I'm fine with the foods on induction......I do WHOLE HEARTEDLY appreciate your advice and guidance though. Thank you!

            Re: Extending My Induction

I was thinking the same EXACT thing. The dairy stuff really doesn't bother me, I was planning to skip nuts, (they kill my stomach) and bread--who want's that?? Not me, I'll start binging if I have it. Then come the berries, oh how I miss strawberries!! And they are in season and all over the supermarket these days....... Beans are not a passion of mine, but then the reg. fruits. Oh heavenly bananas!! I miss bananas BADLY. What else...Oh-Alcohol, I don't drink so that's out.

However, I realized some of my fave things are in the nuts rung, like coconut (YUM) and tahini (OMG). I started rethinking moving on because I don't want to get stuck and I really need a bigger variety to choose from. I'm more afraid that I'll lose 100 pounds and have it all gone just on induction, and then I start thinking about how to incorporate newer foods into my diet and get overwhelmed. There are no guarentees that life will remain the same forever. ;-) In other words, don't create a comfort zone just because you are nervous to move on.

Even though things sound tough for you right now, that doesn't mean that they will always be that way. Just think of the bigger picture down the road. BBQ's, luncheons, school picnics, family reunions, etc. It's better to be prepared for that stuff, even if you don't normally eat most stuff on the rungs everyday then to be hit with it all of a sudden.

Atkins says to just add in 5 carbs per rung and to stay at each rung for as long as you feel comfortable. I was afraid to move until I realized exactly what that meant. If you are moving to the first rung, it means like a couple of cups more of broccoli per day, etc. Totally doable. There is a great sticky in the owl forum called the power of 5. That's what clinched it for me.

Ok wait....so maybe I missed something in the stickies....does that mean you can SKIP rungs on OWL if they are foods or things you dont eat? *i.e. the dairy, the nuts, the alcohol*

And I'm not "afraid" to move to the next run...I just dont think a couple more cups of broccoli or whatever veggie is necessary for me.....I dont know...maybe I'm not understanding something about it........

                Re: Extending My Induction

Yes, you can skip them. Dr. Atkins says if you aren't going to do any specific rung on the ladder, then you are to stay in that same rung for the same amount of time that you would on any other rung.

For instance, If you stay on the veggie rung for 3 weeks and want to skip the dairy rung, you'd stay another 3 weeks on veggies before going to the nuts and seeds rung. I'd have to reread the chapter again to see if you should increase by 5 in the same rung for the next rung. So instead of eating 5 carbs from veggies, you'd eat 10 for the next three weeks. 5 from the actual 3 weeks on that rung and 5 more for the rung you are skipping.

I think that is the general idea. To gradually get your body up to a place where you are consuming about 40 to 80, even 100 carbs per day AND still are losing. That's why you do it in 5 carb incriments. If you go to a rung and increase by 5 and all of a sudden stop losing for a few weeks, you back down a rung and you've found your ACE number. That's the number of carbs you can comfortably eat AND still lose weight. Not many people can make it all the way up the ladder and still lose. Most stop way before they get their and continue on to goal. Once you hit goal you go into maintenence.

It's all explained better in the actual book. Maybe someone here can do a better job with it than me--since I'm relatively new to all this jazz myself. Sometimes I feel like I'm back in biology class or math (yuck). hahaha.

Awesome job explaining that to me.....I understand that ladder thing a bit better now. Seems I'd have to be on the same rung for WEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKSSSSSS though before I ever got to the one I was aiming for...LOL. Ah well......perhaps I'll just keep on the induction until the end of this month and then move on....things are about to get a bit more stressful around here anyway....court date on 6/26 AND my mother will be here on Saturday to start living with me and my daughter *sigh*....definately best I stay on induction and not add any extra carbs that might take up residence on my behind right now...LOL.

hahaha. Well that's cool too. I'm trying to think of this as just food. If I'm happy with what I'm doing and trying my best and losing, then it's all good. I've always been a huge bookworm anyway. The fat girls lament. lol. "Well, at least I'm smart if not popular." <--my motto thoughout my teen years.

Some people get all hung up on the small things. It's refreshing to find someone else who doesn't sweat the small stuff.
