    Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting, but I have been reading many of your
post and learning a lot. I started Atkins to change my eating habits, to feel better physically and emotionally, and to lose weight. Both my Aunts are doing there way of Atkins, so I followed along with them. I have lost weight and have more energy, but I did not follow the rules of induction, I ate nuts and peanut butter. This past week, I cheated three times. One day, I ate two cookies with heavy frosting on them. Then a few days later, I ate a large piece of my daughter's cookie cake with frosting, and the next morning I had another piece. Right now, I am totally discusted with myself and no longer in ketosis. I quit smoking Monday and haven't cheated on that and I am starting that TOM tomorrow. I did read DANDR, so I have no excuse for eating the nuts and peanut butter. I don't know why I had the huge cheat, maybe the pms and withdrawal from smoking, but I knew it was wrong and I could have stopped myself and didn't. I really want to do this by the book. My question is should I start on a clean induction. I'm starting my fifth week on I guess what was more a low carb diet, since I was eating the nuts and peanut butter. The cheating made me realize that I really want to commit to Atkins. I guess posting this thread and sharing my story is a way of committing to this woe.

    Thank you all

Hey Jen...Welcome to the board! Glad you decided to post. It's not great that you cheated, BUT, the important thing is that you realized what you were doing and want to make a change for the better. It's never to late. Heck, I lost 70 lbs. my first time around on Atkins, ended up cheating and gained it all back. At least you caught yourself early. If I were you I probably would start a clean induction, but, some of the others on here could probably answer your question better. I'm still learning things as I go. Good luck on your new commitment. Hope to see you around the board.

first wooo hoo giving up ciggys!!!!

you got two things going on right now. you are out of ketosis and you quit smoking which is a metabolic slight slow down going on. if you are not a scalenumberaphobic ( you don't allow what it says to control how you feel about the hard work you are doing doing Atkins) then just do a few days of induction as Dr Atkins says to get your ketosis going again and move to OWL adding back 5 more net carbs of veggies to those yummy 3 cups of veggies you have been eating doing induction.

if you are a scalenumberaphobic then you might want to stick with induction longer as your body adjusts to the metabolic changes of giving up ciggies.

Now if you have been just doing a lower carb eating then do 2 weeks of induction so you can lay your Atkins foundation for a healtheir smaller you. just know those tables in the book will not accurately reflect your situation after youy 14 days cause you were already low carbing and didn't have the vast glycogen stores to shed.

        Happy low carbing.

Re: Wish I had posted sooner

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm doing a clean induction, no more peanut butter or walnuts. I have not cheated on the smoking, so it's been 2 weeks and one day since my last cigarette. I have been exercising daily, I alternate days between 70 mins on treadmill, slim and six, rowing, and cardio kickboxing. I also use resistant bands and 10 lb weights a couple days a week. My main problem is I am too impatient. I need to try to enjoy this experience. I don't know if anyone saw Oprah yesterday? They had Bob Greene on and I followed up on-line. I really agree with his exercise plan. So I joined a 12 week exercise boot camp. So I'll be doing Atkins for my eating and Oprah's boot camp for exercise.

          Thanks,
          Jen
