  • I think I am doing something wrong..

    Hello.. I have been reading the post here for 2 months now but its the first time I am posting. I have been on induction for 5 weeks now... In the first 2 weeks I lost 11lbs.. but since then I have lost abt 3 lbs, which I think is pretty slow.. I haven't changed my diet much but do have atkins legal cheese cake or s.f jelly or diet coke once in 5 days. I am quite lazy and not very active.. I do try and walk a lil bit though..... I love to cook so i can try just about anything (fooodwise).
    I would love to make whooshie pie but all the horseradish/mustard stuff here(U.K) has carbs..... Should I just put like dry mustard powder?
    I need some tips to kick start my wt loss again as I have to meet my parents after 2 yrs in 30 days time and I would ideally like to lose 5-6 kgs by then....
    Tips plz.. Help plz!!!

    exercise is a mandatory part of the Atkins plan and as DR Atkins says if you are not exercising you ar4e not doing his plan.

    So get busy take a brisk daily walk, find an exercise video you like, join a gym, buy some dumb bells or anything else that fits with your life style so you will do your resistance part of your mandatory exercise but get busy!

    Slowing down after a large 14 day induction loss is very normal and expected especially if you are not exercing.

        I too have been a little disappointed. I lost about 6 pounds in the first two weeks and nothing since then. I have been limiting my carbs to no more than 10 a day and the keto sticks are turning purple but I don't notice a huge difference in the way my clothes fit. I am doing some walking but not every day. Any suggestions to pick up the pace. (I have been doing induction for 5 weeks now)

          You don't want to limit your carbs that much!!! Not unless you are seriously resistant. Are you eating enough veggies? Remember, it's 3 cups a day. DO NOT BE SCARED OF CARBS!!!!! Veggies provide excellent nutrition and fiber that you need.

          Exercise is definitely mandatory. Even walking 30 minutes a day will help!

          If your Keto-Stiks are turning that dark, perhaps you need more water as well! How much are you drinking?

          Finally, some members have found that by moving to OWL they started losing weight faster! Don't be afraid to add in more carbs, at Dr. A's schedule of course!

            Just because low is good, that doesn't mean lower is better. Your body definitely NEEDS the vegetables, don't limit yourself to 10 carbs thereby cutting the vegetables. In fact, you may see your loss pick up if you eat closer to 20 carbs using 3 cups of the higher carbohydrate vegetables.

            Also, DRINK DRINK DRINK the water. Minimum 64 oz per day.

              I have cut out most of the veggies and have been getting those carbs from chees and the Adkins Advantage bars. I will make the switch. The water is not a problem for me, I am drinking about 80oz. a day.
              About 2 weeks ago I got really discouraged because the keto sticks were in the moderate to high range then just stopped showing even a trace. That was when I cut everything out. I think I have the "problem" narrowed down to the Crystal Light I was drinking because once I cut that out I started back to about a mauve color. I will start adding in the veggies again and will let you know how I do.
              Thanks so much for the help! As you know, staying motivated can get tricky!

                Just from my experience, when i first started Atkins, i ate the advantage bars & crystal light drink mix daily and had trouble losing weight (on induction). When I posted about eating/drinking them, some stated that having these made them stall. I cut both out totally and regained my weight loss and stuck to a strict induction. Since you have cut out the Crystal light, so how that goes, if there is no improvement in your loss, then I would maybe suggest cutting out the bars and see if maybe that made a difference.
                Now I am on my fifth week of induction and started adding the bars back in (only about 1 every couple of days - I use them as a "treat" and I have not had any problems with losing.

                      remember color on the stix does not correlate to weight loss. you can be dark purple eatting 20 sticks of butter a day and never lose a pound.

                      Bars had their own page on Dr Atkins site back when he was alive about what to do if eatting them stopped or slowed your weight loss and the message was don't eat them at that phase of your Atkins.

                        It is also helpful to post your starting weight, current weight and goal weight on your posts. It isn't unusal to have a quick start with Atkins, but it isn't expected to continue at that same rate throughout. Every cheat may cause interuption of the fat burning process and your results may be inconsistent because of that.

                        Think of Atkins as a chemical equation. Follow it exactly as Dr. Atkins wrote it, don't deviate from the acceptable food list and your results will be optimal.

                          remember DR ATKINS said that the majoprity of our carbs in induction must come from our veggies so there is no doing Atkins and cutting out the 3 cups of veggies.

                          Also there are body parts that need glucose because they don;t have mitochondria like red blood cells so we do need some carbs. Eat your veggies and be a healthier Atkineer.
