  • Please help me understand something.

Hi everyone. I have been reading the book, doing induction, and reading this forum for about a month now. I was very excited to start induction and lost 5 pounds within the first two weeks, but I have not lost anything since then.

I went to the doctor and had my bloodwork done and everything is fantastic. My total cholesteral is 183, HDL (good) is 72 (normal 40-59, the higher the better), LDL (loser) 93, tryglycerides are 92. I do not have much to lose, about 30 more pounds, and I did not have a terrible diet when I started Atkins. My question is will I mess up my excellent numbers above by eating more saturated fats now, while limiting my carbs to 20-25, and eating more fat overall? I am pretty astonished at my numbers and don't want to risk losing ground with them.

I'm also scared to move into OWL. I have a hard enough time eating enough now, how will I add more to what I already eat? Or is it a case of substituting 5 more carb grams for 5 fat grams?

Thanks for listening. I have to go eat dinner now and probably will not be able to check back here until tomorrow morning. You all have been so helpful in other posts and I have learned much.

Also, I use Fitday to keep track of my percentages and I am keeping the fat at about 65%, the protein around 35% and the carbs at 5%. I am taking in approximately 1400-1700 a day. I am 5'2" and weigh 145 and want to lose 25-30 pounds. I exercise, and have for the past 12 years, 5-6 days a week, both cardio and resistance work.

welcome to ADBB and to Atkins. y9u have great genetics to have those great cholesterol numbers as less then 25% of your serum cholesterol is from your foods.

When we move to OWl we still just feed our hunger and with more of those veggie carbs on rung 1 you will satisfy your hunger before you get to the bowl licking point you did in induction so you will have slightly less food and your fat percents will go down slightly. Try it and see for yourself. 5 net grams isn't a large amount of food just enough to let you know if you can handle those food groups and the individual foods on the rungs.

BTW 65+35+ 5 is more then 100 your percents are off somewhere how about just 30% proteins?

While its very common to have these bouts of "hesitations" in our weight loss, you might want to tell the experts what your eating. For instance, there are some foods that are on the Induction Friendly list, that really bother some folks. I was just reading another thread and some folks stall when they eat pork rinds.
So post your menu or a link to fitday.com if your using it.

Sorry, about my percentages, it is more in the 65-30-5 range, give or take a few.

I don't know how to make my fitday public. I will try to play with that some. However, I eat, 2-3 eggs for breakfast with 1/2 c diced mushrooms, snack 3-4 hours later a stick of string cheese, lunch is usually can of tuna (or equivalent in protein) 1/4 c minced onions, 1/4 c shredded cheese, baked, then another snack of 1-2 cups salad greens and 1 tblsp Ranch, dinner is usually chicken with a small amount of low carb veggie. Oh, and coffee with cream in the a.m., which I measure.

Everyday, I am very conscious of measuring my veggies and counting the Splenda I use in my coffee.

I am wondering if I should get the L-carnitine and CoQ10 mentioned for those resistent to weight loss. I have been trying to lose this weight since my first baby was born 16 years ago.

Thanks for the replies. I will keep reading and plugging along. I am just a bit frustrated. Sigh.

It is said that we will lose between 5-10% of our hopedfor loss in our 14 days induction, so you have done very well to lose 5 pounds which was about a 20% loss!!

To make your fitday account public click on the home tab once you have logged in and scroll down to the 'make my journal public' button and click on that.
You will be given a url ending something like owner=yourname which if you paste it here will allow people to view your menus and numbers.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

Re: Please help me understand something.

got news for you you have already moved to OWL with the nuts and wine!

look at chapter 11 of your DANDR 2002 edition. if you giot the old one rule 5 has been changed and it is now eat nothing not on the acceptable foods lists no nuts no picking our ouw 20 net carbs.

3 cups of acceptable vegies a day not 2.5, no nuts no wine.

Now to the cream... As Dr Atkins notes in chapter 11 cream is legal BUT for some folk it may slow or stop your weight loss (read the part about specail catagory foods). with your food choices it isn't possible to know what your issue is. it could be the wnuts it could be the cream it could be the jello.

What you doing for the mandatory exercise part of your Atkins?

Re: Please help me understand something.

I have been an exerciser for more than 12 years. I walk, eliptical, weight train (not too heavy of weights though), stationary bike, and some stairstep, but too much of that anymore. I work out 5-6 days a week, and only do resistence work without cardio on the days I work with the weights.

Well, then I guess I am in OWL and I shouldn't be scared of it. As for the cream, I will keep it to my morning coffee.

Thanks for the feedback and taking a look. Weigh in is tomorrow. We'll see what happens then.
