  • I went a little insane on the groceries...

well, it's not my fault, it's hereditary
in my family, when you need one, you better buy eight.... that's why our freezers ans pantries overflow....

    but
i did buy great foods, and at amazing prices, so it's great for stocking up.
I'm just getting settled in, getting used to living in san diego with my partner after being home in costa rica for 4 months... so it must be that I'm nesting too...

in any case, I bought a million mushrooms, avocadoes, artichokes, eggplants, bell peppers, asparagus and baby zuchinni. to top it off, i got a buuuuuuuuuunch of ribs. it was a lot of grilling and smoking and cooking, but we've got it done, and we should have enough pre-cooked food to last about 3 weeks.... for a whole army

now, i just gotta get it through my head that I'm moving in 4 weeks, so I CANT STOCK UP anymore!! it's hard, I'm a packrat, particularly with food...

at least I'm all excited that the scale is liking me again, and my hubby's jaw dropped when he picked me up at the airport, plus I came back here and tried on all my skinny clothes, a lot of them fit!

oh, to finish off, my mom got me a fancy water ipod, and I take it swimming with me now! so instead of counting laps, I just swim for a certain amount of minutes...

sorry to ramble, this is my first post in a while, and I'm kinda in love with the diet today... must be all those yummy prepared foods in my fridge!

Yay!! I love loading up on grocery items. I am one of those who feels more secure if the kitchen is full. We can have $20 in the bank (which we often do!!) but I don't stress as long as there are grocries in the pantry and spinach in the freezer.

Okay, what's the water ipod? I'm so out of the 21st century with all the new technical toys. Is this a waterproof ipod or something?

ODing on the fresh veggies is a habit/problem/whatever of mine too.

Enjoy your groceries and skinny clothes

I know exactly what you mean! I have a pantry that is fully stocked but now that I've found Atkins, I'll have to donate half of what's in it to a food bank! Ha ha ha!

I think I want a water ipod and I don't even know what one is.

Congratulations on your weight loss! I can't wait to get into my skinny clothes!

Re: I went a little insane on the groceries...

            thanks guys!

last night we smoked 4 racks of ribs, cooked 6 large artichokes and made rosted-garlic butter to go with them, grilled 15 large bell peppers, grilled 4 pounds of asparagus (yummmmmmmmm) and 4 baby zuchinnis. we grilled 4 steaks out of the freezer, to have extra leftovers for the week, and roasted 2 large eggplants.... nevermind the curry chicken I already had in the fridge...

and it's just the 2 of us!

I guess I was really just getting settled back in san diego.
plus, I do great with leftovers, I tend to cheat whenever there's no cooked food around. I'm also trying to woo my partner into sticking with the diet. he'd been trying on his own, but hadn't been doing so good with the cooking... I'm hoping he'll really stay with it.

the water ipod!!! is soooooooooooooooo cool! I haven't enjoyed a toy so much in forever. it was both a treat/reward for learning how to swim and a birthday present from my mom.
so, it's a regular Ipod (i got mine used from craigslist.org) then I bought a little waterproof box called an otterbox from ebay, and a set of waterproof headphones from amazon. so, all in all, with shipping it was about $80. PM me for more details, I'm a new convert!
niiiiiiiiiice toy! i realy feel like I can swim a little better . I focus on my stroke, as I sing along, it keeps me entertained, so I dont keep looking at my watch, or hopiing I was done.

Singing while you swim? Yep, you get the award for being able to multitask Thanks for the info. I don't have an iPod, but if I even do get one, I'll have to check out how to make it amphibius

Okay how cute is mini zucchini, I mean really? I just saw those in the store the other day. Little stuff is adorable!

I'm such a pack rat when it comes to food too! Especially meat, and more so if it's meat on SALE! Sometimes my husband will come home and I'll have freezer bags stacked in the fridge filled with whatever bulk meat I happened to have found on sale - I actually feel happy and proud of myself when I show him! He thinks I'm a whacko.

Re: I went a little insane on the groceries...

I love it when the fridge and freezer are full of good food! Nothing worse than heading to the fridge and having to eat something you really don't feel like just because there isn't anything else in there!

I buy meat in bulk club packs too - chicken especially. Drumsticks, thighs and breasts are all packaged up with our personal preferences in little ziplocks. It usually works out to 10-15 meals worth, at 3$ or so per meal in meat which I think is great for our family of 4.

I've started stocking up on freezer things too and it's amazing how much that helps. It's just me at home so I don't buy many fresh veggies ahead, but the freezer has lots of chicken breasts and ground beef in it.

And I just don't feel right if there isn't canned tuna and green beans in the pantry too. It leaves no excuse when I get hungry - I can't say "there's nothing here to eat".

I'm a big "stocker upper" too! Its the only way we can afford to eat as much meat and chicken as we do. This past weekend I bought 6 packs of boneless skinnless chicken because it was on sale for $1.99 a pound (its usually almost 6 bucks a pound) I also bought a whole pork loin at 2.89 a pound and cut it up into chops and a roast, I bought a whole beef brisket last week and cut that up too. I love my FoodSaver and my freezer in the basement!

If it were not for stocking up when there's a sale, and partly planning my menu based on what veggies are in season (especially if growing in my garden), there would bills left unpaid vs. quitting Atkins in favor of low-budget Dollar menu & All you can eat buffets. NO THANKS!!!

It's rare that any food ever costs me over $2/lb.; a deep freeze, Freezer bags and ziplock containers are well worth the investment for the savings.
