  • Important Question..

    Hi all,

I have an important question. I may have missed the answer along the way, but I trust that I may get an educated answer to this...

If I am not in Ketosis, but I am still limiting carbs am I going to still lose weight? I am having around 20-30 carbs per day, but i am not in ketosis.

I am just concerned that with the amount of fat i am eating, if i am not burning the fat I may be getting myself in trouble.

I have done induction for 6 months now and have started to introduce stages of OWL (ie strawberrys and cream, very small amount of nuts, more veggies etc) - But I am concerned etc....

    Please help

    Peace

      Re: Important Question..

      Hi,
I have used the Ketostrips - Well, my partner got some and I used them maybe 2 weeks ago - That showed a negative.

Also - and I hate to admit it... I did have a blowout, and for 3 days had CARBS!! Believe me, this was a BIG regret.

I jumped straight back onto Atkins, but at the same stage as I left it (starting OWL)

Is it a good idea to start a brand new CLEAN induction??? Or should I carry on as is??

      Thanks
      Peace

        Re: Important Question..

Go back to induction for a couple days just to get you back into ketosis, and then pick back up where you left off. You don't have to do 2 weeks, just enough to get you back.

            Re: Important Question..

First of all the strips aren't end all, be all of ketosis monitoring as they only test usually for one ketone. That said, being firmly in ketosis isn't necessary for all weight loss on this diet. As you raise your carb levels and lower fat levels, you will naturally be burning less and less fat (dietary intake), and register less ketones. This doesn't mean you aren't burning your stored fat. It just is not as present in your blood. You can then pick back up at the rung you were on.

As for your second question, if you do have a carb binge, I agree with Valid that you should do a few days of strict Induction. Doing that will stabilize your blood sugar and will get your eating and appetite under control.
