  • I am SOOO FRUSTRATED!!!

    I am SOOO frustrated. Ok, this is day 16 of my atkins diet...within the first 7 days, I dropped 10 pounds. It was totally exciting. Then, I joined the gym, and I have been going every day since then. I haven't dropped a pound. In fact, sometimes it's a pound lower. Now, I know I shouldn't be weighing myself everyday, but it's habit. I have never once gotten even the littlelist bit off this diet...never! Here's a typical day for me:

    Breakfast: Sausage & Eggs (fried) and a slice or two of cheese.

    Lunch: Some type of meat, and one veggie, usually broccoli or cauliflower.

    Supper: Some kind of meat, and ALWAYS I eat a salad w/ eggs, cucumber, tomato, and chopped broccoli with the vinegar and oil dressing that you mix yourself...which is only 1 carb, no added sugar.

    I have been eating this standard "day" since I started. If I feel like snacking, I usually get some pork skins. I try not to eat so much of these, since I read that they can retain water.

    My pants are loose, and I'm getting measured at the gym today, to compare. Maybe something can boost my confidence because the numbers on the scale sure aren't. Can somebody please help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong. I started June 13th, and my goal is 50 pounds by October 6, my birthday. It is possible....and fairly realistic, but I need help, cause nothing is coming off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It's probably from your workout change, you are probably holding water.
    I started a new workout about 8 days ago and I PUT ON 3-4 pounds. After a few days, the water weight dropped off and now I have a new low. Just be patient (don't you hate that!) and stick to what you are doing.
    See what happens next week.

      I would not be discouraged. You are doing everything right. Muscle weighs more than fat, and I'd bet that your measurements are less and less. You're inspiring, I have to kick up the exercise. Good luck. Happy scales........

          OK, Not so frustrating after seeing my measurements today....I'm happy...so, here it goes..the results are in:
          TOTAL INCHES LOST: 7.75
          WEIGHT LOSS: 16 LBS
          BODY FAT % LOST: 2 %
          FAT MASS(LBS) LOST: 13 LBS

          I need to loose some in my arms...which is the one place it seems I can never loose in..but, after 16 days this is pretty good I thought. The gym director that measured me said that was amazing after just a week of excercising and only two weeks of dieting...she said I must be doing something right! So, that boosted my confidence..I just wish the scales would show it...because my goal is 100 pounds....and that's where the scales come to play...anyways, hope to here from you guys for advice!!

            You are talking to the scale queen! I get on that thing 3 or 4 times a day. No kidding. It's BAD. Let your loss in inches do the talking, they are what make you look smaller! Now if only I could follow my own advice. LOL! Have a great day!

              You are doing Fantastic!!!


              Don't even concentrate on the scales right now. Like they said "Muscles weigh more than fat". Your body is melting and your muscles are toning and making your clothes fit better! Is't that a great goal?? The pounds will come off.Promise.
              Just keep up the good work and keep measuring the inches loss.

                I am having this kind of week too. They have kicked up the weight lifting at my physical therapy sessions and have me doing more of each exercise too and I gained 2 pounds. And I'm so sore. haha I'm really sucking up the water today and not doing any salt so hopefully I will lose that 2 plus some soon. I go to physical therapy 3 times a week and do stretches, then lift weights, then pushups (I try anyway) and work with bands. The little girl assistant made a comment that she would not be able to do the pushups either. She weighs all of about 100 pounds. I just looked at her and said yeah but I'm pushing a lot more weight than you. LOL I know if I just keep eating well I will eventually lose. I just want to see under 300 and I want it now. haha

                  It's common to stall right after Induction. It can happen anywhere from week 3 to 6.

                  Also read this:
                  For all beginners of the Atkins Diet. This forum will help you along your first 14 days of the Induction Phase. Note: We are strictly by the book in this forum (DANDR - 2002).


                  As a person who has slow weight loss, I have learned to let the weight loss happen as it does and not get tied into what the scale says every day or every week.

                  I know we all want to lose all this weight quickly, but to be fair, it took us years to gain it, it might take a bit to lose it. Additionally, the slower you do lose, the better your skin will react.

                  It's also important to measure weekly too, as you will often lose inches instead of pounds, especially on Atkins.

                  This diet works, it just takes time and alot of trial and error to figure out the best menus and foods that our body likes for losing weight.
                  Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
                  STAC Restart: 1/05/09
                  306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down!

                  Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
                  Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

                  Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
                  Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
                  Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!
                  Female/Hypothyroidism/Arthritis/Fibromyalgia - If I can lose weight on this, so can you!

                    Just to add that many people report that on their Atkins journey they find they are smaller in clothes size than they ever were at the same weight.

                    Atkins helps us exchange fat for muscle, which is smaller is size than the same weight of fat and so takes up less room. So we get slimmer even if we dont get lighter!

                    And in addition - who knows what you weigh unless you tell them!! But everyone sees the healthier trimmer you!!

                      Yeah, when I started at the gym I had my body fat tested. Then about a month later, I reweighed and was 5 pounds heavier, but had lost 5% of my body fat! Stupid scales!!

                          Thanks to all who replied. I think the most important thing is that I feel better, and that going to the gym is my favorite part of the day...and I never thought I would be saying that. The inches is what people see, so I guess that is most important. But, numbers seem so addicting because you can SEE the change in the numbers. I think we all want to loose weight overnight, and damn..don't we wish it could be done like that, but it can't...so, tomorrow, no weighing for me....gonig to the gym..and I'm gonig to set a 2 week mark from tomorrow, weigh and get measured then.. Thanks to all who replied...
