  • 3rd and 4th week slow down.

    I know I read this somewhere... was it DANDR?

    Anyway, I know that I read that after doing induction that the body slows down the weight loss for the 3rd and 4th week and then picks back up the 5th week.

    Did I dream this?

    Seems like I've read that, too. That's why I try to weigh at the beginning of the month only. It's hard, but it really helps me to not get down because the scale won't move. I just try to weigh less on the first of next month than I did on this month.

      It seems that this just happened to me. I'm just over the 5 week hump and I have finally started losing again! Good luck!

        it is a very normal conditon of ANY weight loss program. I call it the post induction hesitation in scale weight loss syndrone cause that is what it really is. check your inches and you will see if you are correctly eating your Atkins, doing your mandatorey exerciuse part of your Atkins, and drinking all your fluids youare still shedding fat even when the scales don't validate all your hard work.

        the body has under gone a lot of changes and for very complicated biochem reasons needs to maintain shape so it has plumped your fat tissues with fluids which yout body when it reaches its bio chem intolerance for the extra fluids will shed them. You have also because of genetic reasons been storing as much of the additional protein you are eating in your organs and muscles as they can hold for furture needs witht he rest converted to sugars. This adeed protein has mass and as such will also add healthy lean body mass pounds.

        Also in the initial weight loss you burned off your glycogen stores which had fluid stored for quick use too which gave us large numbers which were not all body fat. our rate of loss of body fat % will stay about the same until you change your Atkins either moiving up rungs in OWL or changing your as Dr Atkins calls it life style AKA exercise.

        Hang in there and keep morphing your body to be the healtheir smaller person you want to be.
