You know... 4 oz of chicken breast or steak or anything you want to measure is a LOT of food. I'm sure that most of you were just like me, eating it without even thinking about how much we were putting into our bellies.

I just fixed chicken on the grill and weighed a piece that I though surely looked like it was about 8 oz. It was only 4 oz, it was big and it filled me up. I used to eat way more than that..... no wonder I ended up being so fat!

Every day I gain confidence that with Atkins, this board and my food scales (for fitday measurments) ... I am going to be at goal this time!

    Re: Portions

I've noticed that too christy, I still sometimes catch myself thinking...OMG only 4 ounces. But then when I weigh it...it turns into OMG that's 4 oz!! LOL

It's so easy to learn to control your portions with Atkins...I never would have made it only eating 4 oz of meat when I was also eating potatoes and rice and bread with it. Go figure.

      Re: Portions

A good rule of thumb for meat portions is that 3 ounces of meat is about the same size as a standard deck of playing cards.

Portions are important. But it's also hard to get an handle on what a "normal" portion is if you're an over-eater or are used to restaurant-style portions, which are typically 2 or 3 portions!

So good for you in measuring your food. Once you get used to seeing these sizes, you'll be able to estimate them so you won't necessarily be a "slave" to measuring cups, etc.
