  • I have a question on calories...

What is the ideal amount of calories I should be consuming per day? I know we were told not to count calories, but to also not completely ignore them. What would be a good tartget calorie range? I'm 6'2 and 290.

Are you just starting induction?? If so then ignore them completely!! Focus on your carb count.

You can look for a calculator on line to find your Basal Metabolic Rate. That'll give you a good guideline. The theory is that you want to stay at or below your BMR to lose weight. HOWEVER, on Atkins we have a metabolic advantage...and I kind of think of it like this: When we are in ketosis, the body has to use more calories to convert our fat to energy, that's why Atkins says especially during induction not to worry about counting calories. Plus, I think you'll find that because of the appetite suppression of ketosis, the bigger problem than keeping your calories DOWN is making sure that you are getting enough calories in to prevent yourself from going into a situation with your body where it thinks its starving and hoards your fat stores.

          it gave me 2672.9.

I eat around 1800-2350, so I'm doing pretty good, not to mention my Atkins advantage as you pointed out, i'm burning near 3,000 calories.

Yep, sounds like you're doing good I'd say. I occasionally monitor my calorie intake, just because it's in fitday...but I mostly just look at my carbs. The only reason I did mention the numbers is because for a while I was consistently eating around 900 calories a day...and that's not good. I had to readjust to make sure that I got in about double that and the weight is just falling off!

I still have such a hard time with that even though I know it's true. When I first started induction I was really bad about hardly eating anything because I was afraid I would gain weight. I'm doing better with it but I think I'm still obsessing over calories a little bit.
