I know this is a stupid question but, I was wondering about the sweet taste in my toothpaste. Is this sugar, and can it trigger a craving? I do swallow some of this even though I try not to.

Sweeteners such as sodium saccharin are added for taste. Other flavors are usually strong essential oils in the mint family.There are brands such as Toms of Maine that use almond oil and other "natural" ingredients to sweeten their paste, but most brands use saccharin and aspartame.

actually the entire sugar alcohol industry came from toothpaste companies trying different things to flavor their pastes. if you got the a dental org like the ADA stamp on your toothpaste then it is sugar free sweetened with sugar alcohols and aftificial sweetners.by the book atkinseer

Thanks. I could find no ingredients listed anywhere on my tube. I guess trace amts won't kill me, but I've noticed a few cravings right after I brush for something sweet. It's that taste in my mouth. Same with breath sprays, scope, etc.
